I found this book in a Russian bookstore and wonder if anyone heard about this author, Austen Atkinson, or read the book. It's in Russian, so I can't bring quotes, but he extensively references Clube, Nappier, Baillie, Bailey and others. Just like Clube in "Cosmic Winter" he describes past and potentially future impact events resulting in Ice Age,. He mentions governmental suppression of the true extension of the meteorite threat. He also mentions conspiracy regarding the threat and offers potential solutions if world governments and military would choose to act now in order to save the Earth. Also, similar to Clube, he mentions various cases that were or could be mistaken as bomb explosions, but were in fact meteorite impacts. Like Belleek meteorite in Ireland, for example, that at the beginning was considered to be IRA related.

Here is book's description on Amazon:

Tried to look for the info on the author, and apparently he is not a scientist but a journalist, author and TV Producer. That's his resume:

He also wrote Lost Civilizations.

It seems like this Impact book is a compilation of various research sources and his own ideas.

But while looking for the information on the author I found a bunch of interesting links.

The following Spaceguard site has numerous news links that could possibly fit to be on SOTT. Or maybe they are already there.

(1) THE RISK OF IMPACT TO INHABITED REGIONS OF THE EARTH

From Michael Paine <mpaine@tpgi.com.au>

Dear Benny,

After considering the various methods of presenting the impact risk
to the public, I have carried out some provisional estimates of the
risk that an inhabited region (populated or agricultural) of the
Earth will be devastated by an asteroid impact in the next 50 years.
This works out at 1 in 16! By far the largest contributor to the risk
is the Tunguska-size event, which of course is very "localized"
(unless it triggers a nuclear exchange). The calculations are set out
at http://www1.tpgi.com.au/users/tps-seti/spacegd7.html#inhabit

Comments are welcome.
