Autistic Child Defended in Cafe

This is from the abc series "What would you do?" (WWYD?) & has many other videos in this long-standing series, this one is dealing with growing awareness of autism. Yes it's staged, but based on real life discrimination faced by many, (on other topics of discrimination/abuse like domestic violence, racism etc) this episode is a day of compassion & understanding.

The video is approximately 8 minutes, & check the comments of Michael Savage at 04:13.

A greater response comes from this video featuring a shop worker with downs syndrome & some customer reactions. As always, it's about the non-actors & whether they'll intervene at any point of abuse. (initiated by actors)

Lines such as "f***ing retard", "they shouldn't hire these people" & "idiot", would get me taking those individuals down several notches to put it politely. The last 3 women were excellent. Funny how it's usually women that will be the first to speak up (or the only ones at times) & not tolerate this behaviour. The video is 8 minutes & 24 long.

These are great videos. I have seen the one with the Arab American shop owner or employee who gets verbally abused. I was actually pretty surprised that there are people out there that speak out and tell the actor that he is being rude, insensitive or what have you, although I shouldn't be. There are still decent people out there. I have always been verbally abused, because of the way I look, even in my own family. But I can only recall a couple of people that ever said something in my defence. This morning I woke up with the memory of an acquaintance of my mother that had been decent to me when I was small. But he was also one of the very few.

Thank you, for posting this, H-kqge, this is another step towards healing all the sh.t we have to endure, when we are darker-skinned, or when we have disabilities or god knows what else that seems to trigger meanness and cruelty in others.

They're interesting videos! Michael Savage either strongly believes his comments or does it for attention in my opinion.

The woman in the second video who say's "people just need to let off some steam" seems like she wears rose tinted glasses haha, let off their steam on a vulnerable man with down syndrome?

Thanks for posting this H-kqge, I felt so bad for the guy, he had a very sweet and innocent smile, even knowing that he was an actor I wanted to appear in the store and give him a hug :(

I find curious that the women who defended him used the "how would you feel If he was your son", "this is someone's child" argument, even the teacher said this in first place, then she referred to him as "human being", like they wanted first to touch the heart of the agressor and then make the point.

When I see this kind of behaviours so blatantly unjust, makes me wonder how many times I had been near a person who was suffering and didn't realized it, maybe I was too occupied thinking about exams, talking by the phone.. I suppose C's "paying attention left and right" also applies to this.
