Baby girl moved to tears by mom's singing in viral video

The video is interesting. What I find fascinating is the visage of this little girl, her expressions, so many in a little visage, so so many expressions. Sometimes she looks like an old woman. It is really amazing to see her face. How come this can happen? What a mystery is there!

I doubt very much if this baby was reacting in any way to the words of the song and their meaning. How could she? - she's only 9 months old. It looks to me like she's in pain at times - I think her Mom's voice was just hurting her ears and that's why she cries at certain parts and smiles when the singing stops. Her Mom's voice would make me cry too if I couldn't turn the volume down!

I agree with Perceval's observation.

My eldest daughter used to start crying miserably if I sang one particular song: "Drugstore truck-driving man".

No other song did it. (She was about 9 or 10 months old).

ADDED: I should also mention that this child grew up to have perfect pitch so my guess is that there was something about the note intervals that had an effect on her brain.

I have a somewhat funny story. Back in 1997 I was at a music festival in upstate NY. There were two brothers, out of four - all violinists..all with perfect pitch, that were at this festival. I was told that when the youngest, Zach, was 2 years old, his older brother, as a joke, handed him an intentionally detuned quarter sized violin. According to Zach, he played two notes, then started crying and threw the violin against the wall because it was broken! I nearly wet myself when he told this to me. Incidentally, all four brothers went on to be concert master of very fine orchestras.

Perhaps the baby in the video has perfect pitch. As one who has a form of perfect pitch, I can confirm that it almost causes physical pain, and definately causes subtle emotional distress, when the mathematical purity is soiled.

The baby to me looks stressed and is happy that mother is there, but does not understand why she is making such awful noises and is not sure what to do. At the end she covers her face like she is wiping the experience off and is glad it is over with. I think the babe was just very confused.
