Barbara Ann Brennan books

Hi everybody.

I have been told that the books: Hands of light and Light emerging. The journeyof Personal Healing written by Barbara Ann Brennan could be useful to learn about Reiki and healing techniques. i have just bring them from the library, unfortunately it seems that Barbara is related to the New Age stuff and i have to ask here if someone knows about these books. I'm looking for advise to read them or not, because if they are related to New Age garbage i guess i can return them to the library and spend my time in a more productive task.

Thank you for your reading

I've never heard of Barbara Ann Brennan, but I had a quick look at her website. There's nothing about her background or where she has studied, only this:

Dr. Barbara Brennan, the School's founder, is a world-renowned healer, teacher and former NASA physicist, and the best-selling author of Hands of Light®, Light Emerging and the Seeds of the Spirit® book series. She has devoted the last 30 years to research and exploration of the Human Energy Field.

Dr. Brennan draws on scientific and metaphysical sources to bring together many aspects of human experience which describe and explain the healing process.

Established in 1982, the Barbara Brennan School of Healing is the world's premier institute of hands-on healing and personal transformation. BBSH is licensed by the Commission for Independent Education, Florida Department of Education to grant both Professional Studies Diplomas and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Brennan Healing Science®, the specialized form of holistic healthcare taught at BBSH. This is a hands-on healing system that works with an individual's energy consciousness system to create physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.

And then I found this:

Brennan Healing Science Year 1 Course Description

Brennan Healing Science: Theory & Skills I is the foundational study of the basic principles of Brennan Healing Science and hands-
on healing. This first year concentrates on the theory, procedures, techniques and exercises associated with working with Levels 1-3
of the Human Energy-Consciousness System—the physical, emotional and mental relationship of the student to her/himself.
Through lecture and experiential exercises, students will be taught beginning skills in regulating their own energy field, grounding,
assessing and tracking the flow of energy, High Sense Perception skills, and basic hands-on healing techniques related to the first
three levels of the Human Energy-Consciousness System.
Classes include:
• Anatomy and Physiology of the
Human Energy-Consciousness System
• Basic Principles of Healing
• Developing High Sense Perception
• Brennan Healing Science Techniques
• Clinical Brennan Work
• Tracking the Human Energy-Consciousness System
• Receiving Guidance
• Healing with Color and Sound
• Healing on Levels 1-3 of the Human Energy Field

Learning all this in one year, whoa! Makes me a little suspcicious...but I could be wrong since I'm not familiar with her work.

If you want to learn Reiki I would strongly suggest not contacting this person, she seems not to have studied any traditional Reiki. There are some excellent threads about Reiki on this forum, just use the search function.

Thank you Aragorn.

In fact i have level I & II in Reiki, and i'm going to go on with the following levels III and master along this summer.

I speak regulary with my teacher and i'm informed through this forum and several Lauras's articles about the issues about it, the Reiki threads were visited when i logged in this forum and i review them, and i have been careful before begining with the learning.

In any case these books(theirs editions are from 1987 and 1993) are recommended by my Reiki teacher if i want to deepen in the matter between other authors as: David Cousins (book--> A Handbook for Light Workers), Rwediger Dahlke (book--> "illness as simbol", i don't know if this is the tittle in english because i don't find it in the web in english , in spanish is called "la enfermedad como símbolo") and Ken Wilber (all his works related with), the last one author is related with New Age by others but he is a harshly critical of this movement.

The situation in fact is that i use to buy in the same library and they have a lot of books that i listed to them, but in the case of the books named here i only asked for aviability, but they bring them and after reading about the author i'm not sure if i must return them. The normal proceed is to test their availability and once confirmed inquire about the author before confirming the order.

I had seen the author's website before posting here. ;)

I'm familiar with her work (I read Hands of Light and Light emerging) and with two different practitioners using her method. A lot of the information she gives can be found in other bioenergetics books, nothing new there imho. But some stuff is nicely summed up (character wounds for example). She is very much into Love and Light (and so are her practitioners) and she has been channeling some entity for years. This combination makes me uneasy. She has a school in Florida (and another in Europe, I think) and one of the practitioners I know who went there paid about 50 000 $ for the tuition. :scared:
I got the impression (but I may be wrong) from practitioners of this method that these teachings get you stuck in the 'stations' as described by Ibn Al-Arabi (in Chittick's Sufi Path of Knowledge). Their aim is to have 'experiences', OOBE, see the light/the aura, and heal people. They don't want to think about anything negative. They believe anybody who acts in an evil manner is simply a hurt being and that you need to send them love to heal them. Your basic Love and light stuff, I guess.

Thank you very much Mrs.Tigersoap, in this case i'm going to return the books to the library.

Yes she has schools in EU an USA, i think she's a professional con artist after what you said (the price is the proof). :cool2:

Just to clarify, did your Reiki teacher recommend these books by Barnara Ann Brennan? If so, it would be interesting to know why he/she finds them valuable. Just a thought. :)

Hi pirataloko. Ditto what Mrs Tigersoap said. There may be a couple of nuggets of truth in her books, but wading through the fluffy stuff might become quite a burden. There are surely better sources, imho.

I read the same 2 a few years ago and returned them to their owners.

A very good question from Aragorn in relation to your Reiki teacher. I would be a bit curious as well. ;)
