I watched this movie yesterday. It was a documentary without much 3rd party narration and mostly interview clips of parties involved. It was well made.
Actually, I cried many times during the movie and ashamed to hear rapists/Defense lawyers justifications. After watching the movie, It felt like
entire nation is 100 times worse than ISIS. Murderers and defense lawyers justification of using culture and how woman should behave is perfect BS and lunacy.
India has LOT of social Justice issues for a long time, they splash once in a while, everybody criticizes them, quotes Gandhi etc. and forgets them until next one happens. This time, level of response much much higher. Some storm is going on parliament and Indian Parliament hosts lot of rapists and murderers too.
Probably Wave is accentuating the tendencies.
The main criticism of the movie is the amount of air time lunatics got and how it frames the entire nation with subsequent consequences. India banned it inside and asked BBC and google to remove it. Knowing this, BBC changed the programs to air before the scheduled time and google is removing them too. I see Indian media went into damage control mode and making themselves stupid in the process. The video in previous posts is already removed and i still see other working links on you tube. I downloaded on my machine and will upload it, if needed.
This is India's "UVA" rape story. The only difference is victim is a poor,courageous,talented medical student and perpetrators are uneducated, financially,poor, drunken out-of-control psycho's with no regard for the consequences.
Victim's father said "This movie is a mirror to the entire nation". I completely agree. With this controversy, it will get lot more publicity.
Warning: This movie is very disturbing movie. I won't surprise, if you start hating India after watching.
