Bees and Weather

Today stopped again at our local bee keeper to follow up on his past problems with pesticides; posted prior.

In early June he was ecstatic about the activity of the hives and the heat after the rains was bringing about a promising season. Today however, he was somber in his description. The hives have barely enough nectar to sustain them and he said he will have to feed them in September.

The cold weather following the heat of June collapsed the flower nectar production; wild berries are few and far between in the field this year - sign of the times indeed, my heart truly felt for him, his hard work and for the future of these vital insects. :(
