Bizarre organism appears after lightening strike

I know some concerns exist about this site, but also that much has been shared from it on the forum. FWIW thought I'd share this article (with accompanying photo) about a strange organism appearing after a lightening storm:

Another article on this mystery "thingy"!

maybe a larvae procession got "roasted"?

alive, it looks like here:

the phenomena is called "heerwurm" in German or "pleń" in Polish. couldn't find the English word. it consits of a large number of maggots of a certain fly that travel together forming a snake-like body that is able to rebuild itself after being stabbed with a stick etc. it's said to be extremely rare and that you'll sooner spot an UFO (i've seen it twice though). despite its ghoulish look it's said to bring luck.

Looks like a colony of sludge worms got toasted to me?

Looking for a picture, I just found out sludge worms are actually called "tubifex worms"

that's even more creepy than heerwurm. although these tubifex worms seem to inhabit water sediments.

i now think it could be - as suggested by commenters - some kind of a formation of earthworms that had been "lucky" to reside shallow underground where the lightning struck.
