Hi all,

I am trying to find a book that gives a good introduction into hermetic symbolism or the "green language". I tried to use the search function but didn't find anything.

So if anyone has a suggestion for a good introduction into this topic this would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Nick

Hi Nicklebleu,
I've read the "Alchemy: An Introduction to the Symbolism and the Psychology" by Marie-Louise Von Franz and I found it very interesting because I could relate the symbols and explanations used in the book to the Work (as far as I think I did understand :)) but I don't know if this is what you're looking for.

Concerning the "hermetic symbolism", Fred Gettings has a (picture) Dictionary of Occult (secret), Hermetic and alchemical symbols:

Not a book, but a Green Language Guide related to Hermes could be:

History of The Emerald Tablet of Hermes:

Emerald Tablet at Wikipedia with multiple translations:
_http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_Tablet

Hermetic Philosophy by Jack Courtis:

And of course:

Fulcanelli 1999, The Dwellings of the philosophers, 1st English language and American edn, Archive Press and Communications, Boulder, CO.

Fulcanelli, Canseliet, E 1971, Fulcanelli, Master Alchemist: Le Mystère des Cathédrales, Esoteric Interpretation of the Hermetic Symbols of the Great Work; Uniform Title: Mystère des Cathédrales. English, 2nd ed. edn, Spearman, London.

Finally, you can copy and paste any of the following phrases into google search and get some interesting results if you haven't already. They could lead you to a particular book:

"green language" site:cassiopaea.org

"hermetic" site:cassiopaea.org

"hermes" site:cassiopaea.org

The Gnostic Society Library maintains The Corpus Hermeticum and Hermetic Tradition here:

Thanks Tigersoap and Bud!

Thats exactly the information I needed - enough material to get me started...

The problem with Fulcanelli is, that one requires already a significant amount of knowledge of occult symbolism to understand what he is saying - otherwise it's just a very rosy and poetic description of things.

Thanks,
Nick
