Actually, what I wrote was semi-sarcastic. Trump had built up forces that put him in the position of following through least he be slapped with the TACO label again. So, why wasn't killing Khamanei enough to say "we're done" (and declare victory just like in our failed 7 week confrontation with the Houthis) and get the heck out of there? Wasn't it a given (i.e. wishful thinking/as you've stated) that Iran would internally combust once their Supreme Leader was exterminated? What's more likely is that the US will internally combust once the economic fallout from this attack fully plays out. Yeah, karma really is a bitch.

If Trump has been blackmailed, and this attack is not really the kind of usual "let's head there" - a retaliation may become very damaging.
