I should correct. A fatwa is not automatically cancelled after the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, however it may be revised. Moreover, I'm sure, that it will. If we remember KNDR and its nuclear weapon and how Trupm tried scare it.

In the complex hierarchy of Shia Ja’fari jurisprudence, believers follow a marja’ al-taqlid (source of emulation). When a marja’ dies, the 'rule of the dead scholar' typically applies.

While existing followers may continue to observe his rulings out of consistency (baqa alal-taqlid), his edicts lose their binding force for the community at large and cannot be adopted by new adherents.

Crucially, Khamenei’s nuclear ban was consistently presented to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the UN as a fatwa — a personal religious opinion — rather than a hukm-e hukumati (governmental decree).

As Mojtaba Khamenei assumed power amid the ongoing war, he was neither religiously nor legally bound by his father’s previous stance.

The war and now ceasefire, at least until tomorrow, carries on with the Strait of Hormuz pretty much closed, but for the rest of the world the impacts are coming like a freight train coming down the tracks. I've seen many people the last few days quote that Europe has about 6 weeks worth of jet fuel in stock. This very short article gives more info on Europe and the rest of the world.

Looks like one of the goals of the elites to curtail international air travel will be happening for at least a sustained time period. Just one of many serious knock on effects of the war of terror against Iran related to energy. I'm in the US and as far as I can tell for places like Europe, Australia, etc there is still a window of time open to prepare.

I wouldn't say it expires per se.

Those who chose the scholar as the source of their jurisprudence are grandfathered in so long they (1) still judge him to be the most knowledgeable, and (2) are permitted to do so by most knowledgeable living scholar.

In such a case, they can still follow the fatwas previously issued by him. His opinions are still valid and are referenced in debates. Of course, no new followers are to be admitted.

I would say this issue is more political than religious, though. I don't think that Mujtaba is even a marja' (a grand ayotallah) to begin with, so he may not be able to issue a counter-fatwa by himself. He can see still involve others to do so. Until then, I would think the previous one would maintain the status quo.

Insider trading isn't anything new. Trump just does it in the open because he's now shameless.

I can see him getting desperate enough to resort to the nuclear option. He seems to be having a mental meltdown and is going down the memory lane on his social network listing his "wins" from the past, while blasting the press left and right.

He is blasting about last year's operation that "obliterated" the nuclear program. Apparently in response to this CNN article: A deal to end the Iran war seemed close. Then Trump started posting on social media

They are spending a lot of time and effort fighting the media. Probably more than putting into any negotiations.

In this case some "ex-CIA analyst" Larry Johnson claimed on the Napolitano podcast that Trump was stopped from using nuclear codes by the highest ranking US general Dan Caine this last Saturday.

It would have been more plausible if that happened right before the "ceasefire" when Trump threatened to wipe out Iranian civilization, but makes little sense to have happened a couple days ago.

It is easy to fall for misinformation these days. I need to be more careful myself.

Here is a recent example. People were overreacting on Reddit to this news headline:

Trump has come to represent what I think is our biggest personal obstacles to personal evolution in an esoteric sense.

Being someone who is so totally controlled by their machine, having zero self reflection, needing constant validation and attention, lying to others shamelessly and to one self as well.

Someone who is so totally and completely a slave to that which keeps us bound to the very lowest levels.

It's truly interesting to observe one man embody so much that we are called to struggle against if we wish to elevate ourselves to something marginally better.

This is not to say there are any better options at that level. The only options available are based on what type of lies you prefer to hear. Do you want your lies served with caviar or do you want it served up more blatant and in your face! These are basically the 2 options.

People will be always disappointed looking for the change to come from the top, change on the top is rare and unique in history and is mission specific and can be tied to critical points of time(Ceaser, Putin, etc...) and does not last long and can not last long because it is more of an inspiration for the masses because real change can only come from "down", because even if there could be change from top most do not learn the lesson and that is why it is not feasable, but if there where real change there would not be need for the top in the first place. If the base of the house is weak the house crumbles.

Yes, it seems a bit odd about this flu. However, Alex Mercouris is based in London and the flu season is more or less over here. What I can say from personal experience is that the hay fever season is well under way here in the UK with particularly high levels of tree pollen circulating at the moment. If you are prone like me, then it can hit you very hard unless you are taking antihistamine remedies. Nevertheless, I don't discount the possibility of a new Covid strain being introduced since the C's said London would be one of the locations where it would be released.

As to the derivatives market, I worked in that industry for many years as a lawyer. To put things in perspective, the volume of derivatives instruments out there significantly exceeds the total GDP of the whole planet. In many ways it is like a giant Ponzi scheme. It is not for nothing that at the time of the 2008 financial crash (which was exacerbated by the high level of derivatives exposure of financial institutions) famed investor Warren Buffet described them as 'instruments of mass financial destruction'.

Don't get me wrong though, as I do appreciate the role that they play in financial markets, especially where the hedging of risk is concerned. They are often used as a form of insurance to lay off risk and exposure. These instruments are traded both on regulated markets and 'over the counter'. It is the latter instruments that caused most concern at the time of the 2008 financial crash and regulation around their use (particularly where the need for appropriate capital coverage was concerned) was tightened worldwide. However, should there be another financial crash with major financial institutions failing, then no amount of regulation can prevent a cascading default effect.​
