Brain shocks

The Force is Strong With This One
Hello,

I'm not sure if it is ok to talk about personal things on here but I hope someone will tell me if not.

To put it bluntly, I have electric shocks in my head, this is the only way I can describe it really. Some times are worse than others, it can make my whole body jolt, or on a bad occasion I go numb in my arms and legs and have muscle spasms, it feels like my muscles are vibrating, this lasts for only a few minutes and when I recover I am very weak. Mostly these shocks are small and just jolt me a little and then I'm fine. Sleeping is very hard, as soon as I turn out the lights it is like I can see faint electricity in my vision and when I close my eyes it is like I have a strobe in my head.
I have been in and out of the doctors for the past year, and ended up in hospital A and E twice, each time I get told something different, they have said it is depression or stress or anxiety, but I don't think this is correct, they can't find anything wrong with me. They have tested my blood and my heart and all results come back normal.

I really just wondered if anyone else has ever had anything like this happen to them, or if anyone has any similar symptoms that might be able to help me.

Thanks.

Sounds a bit like a seizure.

What is your diet currently like? The removal of gluten, dairy, sugar and most carbs from the diet can resolve an enormous range of physiological problems (in fact, I know of little it can't remedy). If you've not yet had a chance to check out the diet and health section, start with the thread Life Without Bread.

Others may have more input!

I experienced something similar just once, when I was in 2nd grade. It remains completely unexplained.

I had symptoms suggesting that I might be developing seizures later on, especially in high school, but they cleared up in my late teens and early 20's. I believe now that the improvement resulted from dietary changes, in particular the elimination of white bread and processed foods.

"Western diet" can do you in quickly if you have certain kinds of acute sensitivities and you don't change your eating habits. Otherwise it does you in slowly.

Are you following a standard "food pyramid" type of diet, or a specialized diet, or eating fast food, or what?

Seizures came to mind too, though I've never heard of one that the person was able to observe while in progress.

What is your diet like? Cutting the things anart has mentioned can produce miracles almost. Do you get enough good (saturated) fats? They are very important to the body for constructing the myelin, the insulating sheath the around the nerve pathways, so brain and body signals are processed properly. There's a whole board dedicated to diet and health here, so fire up the search button and have fun :)

That is very weird, snaketracer. Aside from the diet advice suggested, I would also recommend trying the Eiriu Eolas Breathing & Meditation program. http://eiriu-eolas.org/

The exact cause of the neural stimulation you are having would be difficult to pin down. OSIT - given you've seen many doctors already and still have no answers. I sometimes get vertigo/dizziness and it appears to be related to strong electromagnetic fields/em smog. The only thing I have found that helps to relieve it is Pipe Breathing/EE breathing. It stimulates the vagus nerve, effectively kicking in the calming parasympathetic nervous system. It may help you too. And it can be done anytime, anyplace.

Vagal nerve stimulation is currently used as a treatment for epilepsy, although they surgically implant a stiumlator. No need for all that, the vagus nerve can easily be stimulated by the EE breathing technique! I almost can't believe how darn simple it is! I highly recommend it. It's like rebooting the nervous system.

Eiriu Eolas would be very beneficial to you snaketracer, but be sure to watch both vids first before trying the program out. Also just stick to the three-stage breathing and meditation for now. If there's any possibility you are having seizures, the Beatha ("ba-ha" or round breathing) is contra-indicated.

If in fact you are having mild seizures, the pipe breathing should actually help with that, as lilou noted, it is a vagal nerve stimulator, and that has a calming effect on brain activity. It's way cheaper too. The little gizmo they put in you costs around $25,000 bux!

A friend of mine has the same symptoms, and she was diagnosed with "Neuropathy" Going on a strict no Gluten diet helped her a LOT.

Have you ever taken an anti depressant? If you've recently quit taking one, the symptoms you've described can be due to withdrawal. Increasing intake of fish oils should help with this. If you've taken an anti depressant for a long time you'll need to taper off of it with medical help to avoid 'brain shocks'.

The same symptoms are also hallmarks of neurological diseases like Multiple Sclerosis. (Which I've had since the winter of 2000.) A few days ago I had an attack not unlike what you've mentioned, from a supplement.

Have you taken any kind of new supplement recently?

Hi snaketracer, are you taking any medications that you think could be causing this? The reason I ask is because last spring I started taking sleeping pills and thought I saw lighting out of the corners of my eyes when I would take them. I felt as though parts of my brain were sparking up and it was very odd.

I have also had problems with dizziness, but I don't think it's vertigo. Sometimes when I am standing up my eyes get sparkly and head spins out of control to the point where I have to fall onto the floor or lean on a wall just to ground myself from all the dizziness.

Going dairy, gluten, sugar and alcohol-free has really helped me. Making sure I'm always drinking enough water and not letting my body get low on blood sugar have also been beneficial.

It's good to know you have seen doctors over these symptoms. Have you considered going to any specialists?

Thanks for all the replies.

I am on no medication, the doctors gave me a depression pill last year which I took for one week and then I stopped taking it because it made me so much worse and prolonged the shocks.
I find if I take paracetamol it has the same effect so I take no medication at all.

My diet is pretty much the same everyday:

For breakfast I have seaweed and manuka honey with orange juice 100%.

For lunch I usually have cooked chicken breast with salad (rocket salad, radish, onions, cucumber).

For afternoon snack I have almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts, walnuts and raisins.

For dinner I will have cooked meat with vegetables and potatoes. Sometimes fish (tuna or salmon).

In the evening I will have a granola bar and a hot chocolate.

I also take 3g of chlorella and spirulina per day, but have only started this recently.

I very rarely eat any bread. Also I drink lots of water (bottled Highland Spring) which I add a slice of lemon. I also drink a lot of green tea with manuka honey in it. I don't drink any fizzy drinks or alcohol, and I avoid processed foods.

I went back to the doctors only last week, again in the hope that they will send me to a specialist, but they gave me a prescription for the same depression pill they gave me a year ago (amitriptyline 10g), despite that I said that it made me worse they still wanted me to take it again. Previous to that they prescribed me with phosphate sandoz which is sodium acid phosphate, I took this for 3 weeks and it has no effect, then they prescribed calcium carbonate pills, and then another doctor after that told me not to take them, so you see they send me round in circles.

I have a rare blood group I'm AB+ I don't know if it is anything to help, but as I said they tested my blood and all results came back normal.

I am reading the book by Dr Hulda Regehr Clark - The cure for all diseases, and thinking about getting a zapper, I am hoping that giving myself more shocks doesn't send me into oblivion, but maybe it is worth a try?

I think I am having some kind of seizure but the doctors say they are not seizures because I don't blackout or fall to the ground or lose consciousness, and I think because of this that is why they don't send me to a specialist?

Hi SnakeTracer,

I have repressed memories (dissociation) from childhood trauma, and have you what you describe amongst other things.
I also have blackouts and flashes in eyes (just before i fall asleep).
Had MRI/eeg/blood tests etc - and all came back all clear.
Ive spoken to other survivors who experience similar things.

I wouldnt take medication as it just exagerates what i experience. Anything which has a physcoactive effect (even caffiene) affects me.

You need to check out the ketogenic diet for seizures. That means almost NO carbs at all. It's mentioned in the "Life Without Bread" thread and there are a number of articles about it on sott.net

Nearly all carbs, spikes the insulin, damages the brain.

Switch the chicken for a nice fatty pork chop (brain needs a LOT of fat) and minimize the salad - too many carbs.

You could have nut sensitivities. Need to eliminate all of them for awhile and then test them one at a time. Raisins spike insulin, bad.

Meat is fine as long as it is fatty. Small amount of veggies but NO potatoes. They spike insulin, cause brain damage (refer to the studies published on sott and many quoted in "Life Without Bread" thread.)

Total unadulterated evil. Spikes insulin, causes brain damage.

Makes no difference as long as your carbs are as high as they are.

Ditch the bottled water; most of it has fluoride in it. Get distilled and drink it with a pinch of salt in it. Ditch the honey in the tea: spikes the insulin, causes brain damage.

Sure, they are making money off of you.

Forget that one, read "Life Without Bread," "Primal Body, Primal MIND" and "The Vegetarian Myth".

Also, never drink diet sodas or anything with aspartame or MSG in it.

I have had similar symptoms from taking antidepressants and also with a neurological condition I have been dealing with. I was diagnosed with chiari malformation and had brain surgery for it. It can feel like my brain is getting zapped and this condition can cause seizures, blackouts, and various other symptoms. As the others have mentioned, getting on a healthier diet and taking the right supplements has been most helpful for me.
