Bright flash and loud boom in Ottawa, Ontario - 28 March 2016

It's 5 minutes after a HUGE blast near me.

I was reading, and an incredibly bright silver/white flash very high in intensity had me look around (thought I had been flashed in the eyes with a camera, it was that intense), and THEN 30 seconds later a HUGE, HUGE *BOOM*, and the ground shook! A LOT!

I'll keep you posted.

Hope you are all right Azur! It must have been a pretty powerful blast to cause the ground to shake, maybe an overhead cometary explosion?

Do you live near a densely populated area?

Don't think it was an air burst, the first ground tremor was quickly followed by two minor shocks. Like ground "echoes" which is why this seems like a big ground impact.

No info yet. All is well, so far, E. :)

Update:

I've found nothing on this. Except for 3 people who called, asking me if I heard/felt it too. All said it sounded like an explosion. They were WSW of me, thought it was my way, which it was but ENE of even me.

I found a few twits posting, nothing more.

The 3 that called me said it was an explosive event, not thunder. It's why they were concerned. Again, I have NEVER experienced a lighting strike that actually shakes the earth, and neither have the ones that called.

*shrug*

Case closed, I guess.
