INXS - By My Side
In the dark of night
Those small hours
Uncertain and anxious
I need to call you
Rooms full of strangers
Some call me friend
But I wish you were so close to me
In the dark of night
Those small hours
I drift away
When I'm with you
In the dark of night
By my side
In the dark of night
By my side
I wish you were
I wish you were
Here comes the clown
His face is a wall
No window
No air at all
In the dark of night
These faces they haunt me
But I wish you were
So close to me
In the dark of night
By my side
In the dark of night
By my side
I wish you were
I wish you were
In the dark of night
By my side
In the dark of night
By my side
I wish you were
I wish you were
In the dark of night
These faces they haunt me
Well I wish you were so close to me
Yes I wish you were
By my side
I recently stumbled upon this video. I thought the song and the melody were just beautiful. The live video version of this song was awesome. The singer was quite handsome and had a BEAUTIFUL voice. I know of INXS, and knew many of their more famous songs. Could even sing along. But this video touched me on some deep level. It was like a man crying out to the feminine, to His feminine. 'In the Dark of Night... I wish you were by my side'.
Out of curiosity, I googled the band and the lead singer, Michael Hutchence, only to find that apparently, he took his life (or so it appears) some 14 yrs ago. I was shocked and totally ignorant of this (where have I been all these years?!), and am also so very sad for the loss of a wonderful artist. It appears from some of his 'live guest appearances' that maybe he was a passive seeker of sorts.
Anyway, I just love this song. If the masculine were to just seek out the feminine and acknowledge and appreciate it, this world may be a different and better place.
