Calbuco Volcano erupts after sitting idle 43 years

This is a massive eruption. Surely this will have some effect on the climate? Sorry if that is a naive statement it just looks so powerful. I hope everyone there can stay safe.

For what i know the ashes came to Bariloche (south of Argentina), in the following link you can see how the ash covered the sky with ash and streets, schools and airports are closed.

http://www.tiempopatagonico.com/informacion-general/2015/4/23/erupcion-volcan-calbuco-esta-bariloche-4056.html

"Banks have been closed to administrative workers doing activities indoors, but not to the public. The same happened in the offices of the municipal and provincial government. In this regard, the Provincial Government and ordered the administrative day off and urged the other branches to imitate such action."

Wow! Incredible pictures, incredible images. How terrible and beautiful at the same time. How I would like to be there and see this rage and anger from the volcano. But I hope everyone is ok, not in danger.

It seems that Nature is fed up. Basta, she seems to say. She is right.

Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks for posting the video- very interesting images of the volcano with the electrical activity, and the possible UFO sighting. I hope all the nearby towns have been evacuated and residents are safe. Something's going on for sure-the world leaders have gone/always were mad/madder still, and the weather is doing the same. More to come, I'm sure :/
Here another "UFO" or the same (I don´t know), but I think those are just planes or drones.

Creepy! It was a great and surprising blast of Calbuco, after hundreds of previous earthquakes in just one or two hours, and are falling ash in the city of Puerto Montt and red alert was declared across the region.

It seems that it's been quite busy earth changes-wise in Chile. Last month, northern parts were hit by floods (worst rainfall in 80 years) and mudslides, while in the more southern parts of the country wildfires broke out. And there was the eruption of the Villarrica volcano.

I read an article written by a Dutch citizen in Chile, claiming that such disasters aren't taken very seriously, and that funds seem to be lacking when it comes to increasing 'survival' of natural disasters and rebuilding after such events. However, she wrote that the government has decided to spend much more now, albeit to her, it's kind of late now. Either way, I hope that Chileans will keep safe during these times.

Added: IronFloyd, just noticed you're from Chile, are you and your relatives safe, do you live in a more/less unaffected area in Chile?

The reaction of the average Chilean is quite something. A week ago there was a street comedian performing in a bus (in Chile there are mostly musicians (some good, some very bad) and signers in public transportation) and he was joking about the fact that the actual president was cursed because all known natural catastrophes happened during her presidency. Artists are prophets ;)
However, even if every Chilean will tell you that it's a volcanic/seismic country, there is a lot of normalcy bias as well.

Added: And just to share some Chilean humour: _http://lalegal.cl/noticia/3448

Alaraco Juan Fernandez, president of the Chilen Catastrophes College, explained: "Catastrophes found in Chile a good place for vacation, which is why they arrive in mass to visit our beaches, hills, mountains and glaciers. We have already surveyed over a thousand of natural disasters throughout the world and 90% agree that Chile is their favorite place and they love it above all things."
Of course, the victims do not find it as funny.

Unfortunately I can not select text on this page to be translated into English, but apparently US meteorologist says: "The eruption of Calbuco could cause a volcanic winter and change the temperature of the planet"

Another video in slow motion from the eruption, there is a comment that will post here, that explains the "release" of the lighting, then again, others might know better, considering what is involved in the human cosmic connection book, in which I haddnt reach that part.

Question: Does the sound on the video could be volcanic whistilng lighting? that talks about here?: http://www.sott.net/article/282775-Cosmic-music-Whistling-volcanic-lightning-heard-halfway-around-the-world

+wake-up-asap the lightning is caused by ash particles rubbing together causing static in the eruption column, ash from volcanoes isn't like like your typical bbq ash,it's very abrasive and contains substances such a silca glass and metals and other minerals from deep within the earth.

Looks like the noise in the video comes from the camera. The lightening whistle in the article is radio (electromagnetic) signal.

That's one hypothesis, but nobody has a definitive explanation or model for the electric activity during volcanic eruptions. For instance, this hypothesis ignores the Earth electrical circuit and considers the phenomenon locally, i.e. an electrical discharge inside the ash plume in isolation of the difference of potential between the ground and the upper atmosphere.

One of the most spectacular photos is probably this:

Well, apparently the ashes of the volcano could come tomorrow to the city of Buenos Aires:

"Changes in the winds could sweep the ashes resulting from the eruption of the Chilean volcano Calbuco a part of the province of Buenos Aires, as indicated by some weather forecasts.

According to forecasts, the phenomenon may feel more strongly between tomorrow and, although it is still a possibility.

"The winds, for now, are in the vicinity of the volcano. That is generating ashes of Rio Negro and Neuquén, some points west of La Pampa and southern Mendoza, and start to head towards the Chilean side." That is the configuration of winds today, said meteorologist Leonardo De Benedectis in an interview with Channel 9.

"This may be changing if the volcano is still active and if still emitting ash. If we talk about the weekend, with the current conditions, there is beginning to change the situation because the broken west wind would have an approach to South province of Buenos Aires"

Something I noticed a few seconds ago when i go out is that there is a thin layer of "dust" on all sides with a peculiar odor.

Yes, and another thing regarding fires in the south, is that these were forests with trees over 500 years and many of 1500 or even 2000 years, and in landscapes that were rated by the BBC as of the few places in the world who were kept as in the dinosaurs era, and were burned and the Government claimed that the fires were controlled, thing that was absolutely false, because the fires continued to ravage the landscape. And about your question is such as mkrnhr described. Thank you very much Oxajil for your concern but fortunately I live in the central region (Santiago) area that has not experienced these situations, so me and my family are all fine, although it is anticipated that on weekend could arrived ash from the eruption, but it would be with minimum consequences in this zone.

PS: the "UFO" has been clarified that it was a small plane piloted by an Austrian tourist who also filmed the explosion from the heights. http://www.t13.cl/videos/nacional/video-el-inedito-registro-de-un-piloto-que-fue-confundido-con-un-ovni

PS2: Sorry about my "english"!

Yes, it figured to me, but for one instant I doubt it because, I rememebered that kind of sound coming from a tape recorder, and nowadays those are not in used? or are too old, of course, I am most ignorant in such professional/amateur jobs.

It is truly spectacular phoyo!!, I was awstruck!! I thought there was an defenitive explanation by now, thanks mkrnhr.
