Since about 10 hours ago, I cannot access the forum nor the FOTCM sites, yet I can get the SOTT site. A curious thing is that I can access the forum from my mobile phone, though. Curious!

Um, not enough details. Could be anything
from your OS, Network Setup, browser, etc.

Well, what kind of details? I am not familiar with your terms OS or network settings. All I know is that I can access any internet site I click on except the forum and FOTCM. I get a message saying that it cant be displayed. I will have to educate myself on this terminology and its usage.

Hi Bar Kochba,

OS means operating system, eg. Mac, Windows, Linux, etc. Depending on the OS, network setup means how you connect to the Internet. It is different for different OS eg, could be automatically set for you or in some of the older OS, you may have to manually configure, meaning, specifying some numbers like, DNS, IP's and so on. Did you try clearing your browser's cache as suggested earlier?

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I could access any website (including sott.net) except the forum, fotcm, glossary, cass-cult, etc.

Someone suggested I try a proxy server, which I tried and could then access the above websites, but when I tried to log in, I couldn't. So I didn't use the proxy again.

My IP address was a static one, so I found out I could simply change it to a dynamic IP address on my ISP website. So that's what I did. The next morning everything was back to normal.

I then did a full computer format and re-install as I found out that at some point in my troubles the cass server had automatically blocked my IP and I might have a virus.

I'm wondering whether it blocked me when I tried to log in using a proxy, but the original problem was my ISP blocking me due to some new agenda from the 'powers that be' in cahoots with ISP'S to block peoples access to cass for a while to try to frighten them. Like stating “look what we can do to you.”

But maybe I'm being paranoid.

Try checking the following (Put them in your browser URL line):

For SOTT.NET, use: http://66.90.73.49
For SOTT Forum, use: http://50.7.225.115/forum

If this works, then this means that your ISP's
DNS is not resolving one or more of the following:

sott.net
www.sott.net
cassiopaea.org
www.cassiopaea.org

Call your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and
ask them to check if their DNS is resolving the
above names, or if they are blocking access to
any of these sites.

I appreciate all the suggestions. Dant, I tried typing in the address you gave me. Still cant access the forum. I also tried deleting cookies, resetting the network settings, etc. All the things the computer itself suggested. Turned off pop up blocker, turned protect mode *off* I just started trying anything I could think of without getting too far out of my depth. I will have to call my service provider, qwest.

It seems as though my problem is similar to Peam's. The only site I can access (from the Cass group of sites) is SOTT. I find this incredibly strange. Haven't phoned my provider yet, will do it after work today. I really want to know how this abruptly just *happened* 2 days ago.

Hi Bar Kochba,

Do you have an antivirus program? Do you run scans regularly? If you use windows you might try installing and running these programs, in the order listed:

Malwarebytes
CCleaner

Malwarebytes removes "malware" or software designed to trick you into buying something or to steal information from your computer. CCleaner can clean out all of the temporary files on your computer, and it will clean up the computer's registry. The registry is like a table of contents where your computer lists all of the programs that are installed and how they work.

And if you don't have an antivirus program:
Microsoft Security Essentials

It sounds like you are using internet explorer. If none of these suggestions work you could try another browser. I recommend Firefox.

i have windows vista and use explorer. i do have norton and avast anti virus and spyware. I have done quick scans, full system scans, whatever I could find. I ran repair programs. As I mentioned, I am learning this as I go along. Thank you for the suggestions, I will look for the programs you mentioned.

Hi Bar Kochba,

I had identical problem yesterday morning starting at around 10am CET. Could access only sott, cassiopedia and DCM, all other sites (cassiopaea, forum, FOTCM, cass-cult, EE, even qfgpublishing) were inaccessible. The message I was getting was "The connection has timed out".
I contacted Scottie via e-mail and found out that my IP was permanently blocked by server (as I understood it).

So, fwiw, if something similar has happened to you, maybe you could contact Scottie via PM from your phone?

Ok, so you have Vista.

Review the following link (Video on how to do a trace route on Vista):
_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsT3U9MQw64

You can read up on web search for how trace route works.

Basically, TR checks to see if there is at some point between
your computer to the destination (sott.net/cassiopaea.org)
that routing is being blocked or is inaccessible. If the tracer
does not reach the destination, then it won't appear in the
trace-route display.

BTW: the forum was down, and now it is back up. SOTT
(scotty?) must have taken it down or rebooted it for a time,
would be my guess.

try proxy server from http://proxy-zone.net

Try again now.

Our new server was a bit too enthusiastic about banning potential hackers. It was erroneously and automatically blocking the IP addresses of valid users who weren't doing anything wrong.
