In one of the forum threads, there was a post with an extensive quote about individual(ist) vs. clan-based societies.
The gist of it was that a society based on individual relationships has higher tolerance for interaction and cohabitation with non-related people. It is also more conducive to striving for objective/common standards. On the contrary, in a clan-based society there is a strong preference for interaction with relatives or clan-members. As a result, a person would rather be loyal to the clan than accept that a stranger is right about something, and the clan is wrong.
I think it was Laura's post. I have made a note of it to myself on January 4. So it must have been posted around early January 2010 or December 2009, or perhaps a bit earlier.
I wanted to reread it and searched this way and that, but wasn't able to pick it up. By chance, does anyone remember a post like this, or am I confused and it never existed?
Any help appreciated -- thank you!
