Can't sleep....

I've had body temperature problems recently. It was too hot to allow me to fall asleep until 4-5 am. I had to wait that it returns to a normal temperature every night. Solving this problem was rather easy thanks to chinese medecine. I guess you know that chinese medecine divides foods and drinks into 5 kinds of energy. You can easily find lists of ingredients on the internet.

The energies of foods refer to their capacity to generate sensations - either hot or cold - in the human body. The five kinds of energy are cold, hot, warm, cool and neutral, and this refers not to the state of the food but its effect on our bodies. For example, tea has a cool energy, it means that when we drink hot tea, it generates cool energy and it is therefore considered a cool beverage. Shortly after you have drunk hot tea, the heat begins to fade quickly and it begins to generate cool energy internally, allowing your body to cool off.

Measures as simple as having "hot/warm foods" (according to chinese medecine) for breakfast and "cold/cool/neutral foods" for dinner has given good results. I've also stopped having hot drinks in the afternoon or in the evening and have replaced them with cold drinks. The aim is to make my body cool enough at bed time to fall asleep quickly . From my experience, melatonin won't help if your body is too hot.

I couldn't find scientific datas supporting these ideas but i think it they are worth considering. It may be more efficient to cool your body from the inside rather than from the outside.

Hi Gimpy, have you tried eliminating sources of blue light after sunset? I've been doing that for a couple of months now and it seems to be having an effect. For my phone, I use a free app called twilight, and for my computer, I use a free software called f.lux. Also, I've tried sun exposure during sunrise and sunset, I think according to Dr. Kruse's method. Letting the sunlight hit your eyes unfiltered, no windows, glasses, or contacts, both in the morning(I've been doing it at sunrise since I wake up at around that time), and at sunset. Probably shouldn't look at the sun directly though :P

With this method I've been getting tired at around 10-11pm and not being able to stay up.

Regarding the heat, I keep a small fan blowing air slightly above me all night. (The white noise helps as well)

Maybe, try getting an ice pack wrapped in a thin cloth or something, and keep it by your feet at night... like one of those hot water bags but inverse (I have no idea what they are called), fwiw.

I hope you find some solution!

For tablets/phones and the PC you can also use this to darken any whites on webpages in firefox:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkenbackground/

The number value sets the brightness. Red shift makes it tinted, darken is also useful as it doesn't change the hue.
