Censorship on Facebook

A Disturbance in the Force
Laura suggested I post this on here for discussion. A few days ago I made this post on Facebook.
"Just turned on the Tell A Vision while I had lunch. (First post, followed by this comment)
There are aliens on there talking about puts, calls, strangles and straddles. Strange critters. They live in subjective reality way up in New York and evidently spend their whole lives studying figures in a computer that don't really exist. They make 10 year predictions about their non-existent figures. As best as I can tell they have no connection to the Natural world and worship three deities, DOW, S&P and Nasdaq. They are devoted. They worship 5 days a week and take the weekends off. Even though I don't quite understand their language, they are a very interesting study. I wonder what planet they are from?"
Facebook immediately censored the second part of the post, removed it entirely, 6 times. So, my wife translated it into Spanish a line at a time. They allowed two lines before the censoring began again. Today I had a friend translate it into Portuguese. I posted the first half which FB allowed. They censored the second half immediately. I thought to myself, what is it that FB doesn't like about this post?? I then removed the names of the deities, Dow, S&P and Nasdaq. Facebook then allowed the post. It seems the reptiles are becoming a bit paranoid, LOL.

Hello Mihchaiel,

as far as I understand you it has nothing to do with censoring. If you like to post something on your wall, you have a certain number of characters that are available and when you try to post too many, FB cuts the rest of. So far your message is over 600 characters long and FB only allows 415.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and if you like you can introduce yourself in the Newbies section.

Legolas, You didn't understand. An initial post is limited to a certain number of characters which is why the initial post was just a sentence. Comments are not limited. The remainder of the post was in the comment which was definitely censored, in real time.
Thank you guys for the welcome!

Interesting experience you had. Just for kicks, I'm currently posting what you wrote. It's been about 10 minutes and so far nothing's been deleted. Would be interesting however if others couldn't view it...

What I've been experiencing lately is not only the inability to like or comment on certain posts, but when I click on that person's page to view the original, it doesn't show up!

Ah okay, now I understand what you mean. Well, strange then.

Interesting, TS. Some friends tried to post it with no luck. Let me know how it goes.
So I left it up for 2 hours or so and 1 person was able to 'like' it (someone was also able to comment - can't remember now if it was the same person) and it read as originally posted. So at least one person was able to see it. After that, I took it down. I may try it again a couple of random times to see if fb allows the whole post. Would also be interesting in the near future to see if posts retain their integrity after being put up.

I'd also like to invite you to post an intro on the newbies forum, if you're interested. It doesn't have to be long, just a little something about yourself.

Welcome, Mihchaiel. :)

hmmmm. I often share SOTT articles through my FB account and am always astonished that I have never ever ever had one comment (except from my Mum) on any of these articles. I had put it down to the assumption that every single one of my 'friends' is asleep. But maybe, just maybe they never actually see the articles???? Nah... they're definitely asleep, I'm sure of it.
