Chechnya reportedly begins rounding up gays

I was thinking that this 'report' from Novaya Gazeta may have to do with the fact that Kadyrov sent some of his fighters to Syria to fight ISIS (in order to demonise him). Kadyrov's statement can be found at 22.08, lasts about one minute.

To be exact, Kadyrov didn't sent fighters to syria, but suggested to Putin that he and his men would be willing to fight there if he sends them, which never happened, at least not officially.

When I saw these headlines making the rounds on social media I was quick to question the validity of it. Perhaps there is some truth to the story, but by and large it seems to be just another bout of anti-Russo propaganda. I saw quite a few folks claiming there were gay concentration camps in Russia, and anyone who knows the history of Chechnya is pretty well-aware that the area is quite unlike the rest of Russia.

Well, apparently Chechen prosecutor's office opened an official investigation of the allegations of "the massive kidnapings".

This original theme of torture and executions of gays in Chechnya was propagated by journalists of "Novaya Gazeta", publishing names of GayRussia.com activists, with assertions that the activists claim not to have made. The NG publication has since been sued by the activists of GayRussia.com, stating - "We [organization] never gave any information in regard to torture and executions of gays in Chechnya."

Fake News Bust: There are no "Gay Gulags" in Chechnya

The journalists of "Novaya Gazeta" may have become hostages of a scam organized by Russia's "LGBT Network". In their mailbox, (kavkaz@lgbtnet.org), the same victim stories have been found that were published in "Novaya Gazeta". Now, this same organization is raising funds for victims at a special website. Donations are being collected for the emigration of Chechen homosexuals, from US $ 10 to unlimited - you can also arrange monthly transfers.

LGBT activist, Nikolay Alekseev, has called it "the most ambitious financial scam in LGBT history of Russia." Alekseev, in his post on Facebook wrote that it is very easy to collect donations, with the help of the media. But in the end, suggests Alekseev, the funds raised in the defense of Chechen gays "end up in unknown pockets, and the situation with LGBT rights in Russia remains unaddressed."

The Director of Applied Political Studies Institute, Gregory Dobromelov, has stated foreign mass media publications are "predictable", but no real consequences will be caused. "It is clear that the Western media works to discredit the image of Russia, any excuse to carry out such a task will suffice."

Sigh, I just saw a petition on change.org about this potentially fictional mistreatment of gays. I didn't know there was a possibility that it may have been an April Fools joke.

It seems the gay community is extremely easy to wind up an manipulate. I'm not sure why that should be.
