China rejoices after 'miracle' man snatches nation's first Olympic ski gold

China rejoiced after Han Xiaopeng made history by becoming the nation's first skier to win Olympic gold with a surprise victory in the men's freestyle aerials final in Turin.

Han's win on Thursday dominated local media and headlined Central China Television's (CCTV) midday news, while a senior sporting official hailed his performance as a "miracle".

This gold medal may have been a 'miracle' but the summer Olympics medal table for the last few Olympic games demonstrates the rise of China vs. USA.

Given that the next summer Olympics in 2008 are to be held in China I expect that China will overtake the USA and top the medals table. That will take some explaining on FOX news :)

However given the situation the US is cooking up regarding Iran, an ally of China (osit), perhaps the USA team will have an excuse to boycott the Olympics in China.
