Clogged drains & other water-related problems symbolism ?

Well, that's interesting. My sister owns this place, so maybe all these plumbing issues are actually a reflection of her own emotional issues. And I can see what's bothering her. Thanks.

And, regarding the plumbing issue, it should be fixed monday. I found a place to spend the week-end.

Looks like the issues are far more worse than expected. The plumbers tried to unclog the pipes today, without success : the totality of the pipes (far too narrow) are gripped with rock-hard stuff inside. So, they have to change everything, and my sister is reluctant to engage herself in such heavy work. Nearly a week later : still no toilets, still no shower, my girlfriend is very anxious about this situation, I had her on the phone a few minutes ago, she was crying... Damnit.

As mentioned before this shouldn't be Your problem, but the landlords (ie Your sisters)...
About pipes (Aurgo might want to fill me in here), they aren't eternal and must be renewed/changed at certain intervals in the history of the house. Some refuse to accept this simple fact because, among other factors, it's a costly affair.
It's all about maintenance and the willingness of the house owner to perform this.

Definitely not your problem Polonel, this drama does belong to your sister!!
It sounds like you have old steel pipes choking themselves, and unfortunately your plumber is right they will
Need to be renewed (Clerk D.B is on to it, def long overdue!).
The thing that may help your sister to spend the money is that where the pipe work leaves her apartment and becomes common to the other apartments, the other owners will need to contribute!! And essentially her only financial burden is within her own property lines, the rest, shared evenly with the other owners that connect to that common line.

So till Monday the accommodation situation may cost a little more, but hopefully your comfort levels ease your mind and relieve any tension it may have caused your relationship!
All the best :)

Erm, sorry to relive this old thread, but I'm starting to think that the problem is far from being over.

After the incident I mentioned in 2012, we moved to an another flat. During my stay here (I moved to my sister's house, since), we experienced another series of four water damages : three of them were caused by the neighbors living upstairs, and once, the faucet literally stayed in my hands while I was filling a glass of water. The water damages caused by the neighbors were quite heavy and necessitated one week and a half of work. The paintings in the bathroom and in the living room was very damaged, it was like the roof was literally falling on our heads !

Even more dramatic, three months ago, while I was staying at my mother's house, the seal of the hot water tank broke. It was here for fifteen years, and it suddenly broke while I was here. It took us all the afternoon to empty the cellar from all the water that poured onto the floor during the night. Hopefully, the hot water tank wasn't damaged, but during a second when I discovered the problem, with the hot steam leaking from it, it was like it was just about to explode in from of me. That was scary.

More recently, as I wrote earlier, I moved to my sister's house. It's the third week I'm here, and, guess what, I've already caused a water damage. Apparently, I'm too tall for their shower, and I didn't realize I was spraying water on the floor of this big and old country-side house, until my sister noticed a wet spot on the ceiling of the living room... Now my brother-in-law is obviously mad at me, and I feel both embarrassed and, as my sister said, cursed.

That's it for now !

Re: Clogged drains & other water-related problems symbolism

Wow. We had the same problems in our old house- a leak in the roof no one could find- and now in our new house every sink and toilet clogs- you can hear them all gurgle when you use one!! We own both houses. My husband has to- we call it snaking- use the coil thingies every few months. There are only 3 of us and 3 bathrooms. Two adults and a 9 year old daughter. We think tree roots may have grown into and disrupted the pipe that goes from the house to the street. A very expensive job which requires having the pipe in the front yard excavated.

It's uncanny that so many people are having these problems. My parents are too and they've owned that house for 26 years and have a well and a septic tank. Much different than what we have.

One night, many years ago, I told my (then) girlfriend an abstract of the most important topics of the C's material.
The next morning, the plumbing of her house cracked and the water started to flood it.

In the same week, that happened a few times.

I don't know the cause but maybe is related. Also, I've noticed that sometimes, when people experience strong emotions, strange things occur in their homes related with the water.
