Comments to a Sott Article

I think Palinurus was referring to the SOTT page, not the forum. On SOTT, you can be on the most recent page but logged off, go to log in, and it takes you to the home page i.e. sott.net, not the page you were just viewing. Some other websites do that too, and it can be frustrating to lose your place and have to go and look for the specific place you were just at.

Exactly! Thanks Heimdallr. It really is quite annoying at times. I hope there will be a solution for this some time... :knitting:

This doesn't work. It has something to do with our caching schemes and cookies not being passed when they're supposed to be, but I've never been able to figure out why.

The way that it currently works (redirecting to the home page) also shouldn't work if you are on the home page before clicking the Login link, but for some reason it does work in that case.

On my development version of SOTT that I run locally, it works fine, and redirects to the page you were on before clicking Login. But put it on the live server, and no dice. The main difference between the two is that my local dev version doesn't do any of the multi-level caching stuff since I'm the only user. Even after I more or less rewrote the whole cookie scheme, it still didn't work on the live server.

Thank you for the explanation and your time, Mr. Scott.

I'm glad you already were aware of the problem. I'm not computer savvy enough to conjure up any advice so I'll leave the matter in your capable hands. We'll just have to wait then until this anomaly sorts itself out, I presume. If at all...
