Here is another video of the storms and Tornadoes that came through Iowa a few days back. You can see later in the video, the guy’s truck was in the path of the tornado and his airbag went off. They rush to his parents house, which was destroyed, luckily everybody was ok. You also get to see the hail that often accompanies these storms.

I’m always in awe of these videos where the sun is shining in front of the storm front, lighting up the tornado. It gives it a surreal affect.

Baseball Size’ Hail Falls in Texas as Storms Whip Across South

Hail as large as baseballs fell in Texas on Wednesday, officials said, as thunderstorms whipped across parts of the American South and forecasters warned of possible damage from flying debris and flash flooding in low-lying areas over the next two days.

Storms across Central Texas were producing “very large, destructive hail” early Wednesday evening, including four-inch specimens that fell over Waco, a city south of Dallas, the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth said on Twitter.

Waco’s police department said that one of its officers’ cars had been hit with “baseball-size hail.” Unconfirmed reports streaming into the National Weather Service said that hail falling around Texas ranged from the size of nickels to golf balls.

Large hail was also observed as storms rolled through Florida on Wednesday afternoon. In the city of West Melbourne, southeast of Orlando, the National Weather Service meteorologist Tony Cristaldi posted a video showing hail hitting cars in his driveway, and what he called a “river of ice” floating down his street.

Supercells are nature's ultimate storms, so-called "Finger of God" whoppers that are "the dominant producers of significant tornadoes and hail," said lead author Walker Ashley, a professor of meteorology and disaster geography at Northern Illinois University. Tall, anvil-shaped and sky-filling, supercells have a rotating powerful updraft of wind and can last for hours.

Cyclone Mocha: Deadly storm hits Bangladesh and Myanmar coast​

A powerful cyclone has hit the coastlines of Bangladesh and Myanmar after intensifying into the equivalent of a category-five storm.

Cyclone Mocha brought with it heavy rain and strong winds, leaving residents in low-lying coastal areas fearful they may lose their homes.

More than 500 bamboo shelters in Cox's Bazar, the world's largest refugee camp, have been destroyed.

Landslides and floods are also hitting the area.

As the storm approached, police patrolled the coastline in the town of Cox's Bazar carrying loudspeakers, urging people to stay indoors.

The streets emptied as the cyclone intensified - the skies darkened, the winds picked up pace and the rains pounded down.

Hundreds of people crammed into a school in the city which had been turned into a temporary cyclone shelter.

Mothers with babies, young children, the elderly and the frail packed into any available space in the classrooms, sleeping on desks and sitting under them.

Authorities here say more than 500,000 people were evacuated from their homes in this south-eastern stretch of Bangladesh.

Badakhshan farmers lose dozens of livestock in devastating hailstorm

Residents of Khash district say a devastating hailstorm hit their area on Sunday night, killing at least 80 sheep.

They said 30 other farm animals including cattle disappeared in the storm in Shahran village in the Mazar valley.

Bismillah, a resident of Khash district says that out of the dead sheep, 30 have been declared Halal, while the remainder are Haram.

According to him, 30 other animals are still missing.

The lost and missing cattle belong to three village farmers named Zalmay, Firoz and Mahbobullah.

Farid Shahrani, director of research at the Department of Agriculture in Badakhshan, says that this incident has caused enormous losses to the people and there is a need for institutions in this sector to help those affected by the storm.

Rain and storms have for many days over Northern Italy lead to severe flooding (but also in Croatia). First out is an article from Vulkane.net, which writes following:

Flooding in parts of northern Italy

For several days, there have been several heavy rain events and prolonged rainfall in northeastern Italy, causing severe flooding. Media report at least 3 deaths [which actually has risen to 9 deaths, see article below], several missing and thousands of evacuees.

Particularly affected are the regions of Emilia-Romagna and Marche which have been hit by heavy storms. In the areas along the Adriatic coast there was heavy flooding. Several rivers burst their banks and landslides were triggered. The fatalities occurred in the towns of Cesena and Forlì. A man held himself while drowned in the basement of his house. Apparently, the water rose so fast that he could not get to safety.

Other people fortunately managed to get to safety. Many people fled to rooftops where they had to be rescued using helicopters and boats. Hundreds of firefighters and helpers were deployed, who not only had to rescue people but also pump flooded cellars dry.

At times, traffic came to a standstill in the affected towns as roads turned into raging rivers and cars were swept away. In addition to roads, tunnels and bridges, rail lines also had to be closed. In many places, schools were closed and public life came to a standstill.

Many beaches along the Adriatic coast were also closed. The reason for this was not so much rain, but strong winds and high waves.

Not only the Italian Adriatic was hit by the storms, but also the coastal regions of Bosnia and Croatia. The village of Hrvatska Kostajnica in the hinterland of Croatia was particularly hard hit. There, the river Una burst its banks and flooded the village. a state of emergency was declared in the region. an easing of the situation is not in sight, as further rainfall has been forecast for the next few days.

The Italian region of Emilia-Romagna is located in the northern Italian lowlands, which are dominated by the river Po. This has often been in the headlines since last year because of its low water. Although the storms were concentrated in the eastern coastal area of the region, other parts of Emilia-Romagna also received rain. Perhaps the drought period is now over.

Disastrous flood in Romagna: ​

Everything is flooded in a huge area, from Bologna to Rimini. There are dead, missing and then of thousands of people, but the bad weather will continue for a long time. The details:





It continues to rain in Emilia Romagna where a dramatic flood is underway, the second of this terrible May which has already dumped absolute record rainfall quantities on Italy. It had never rained so much in such a short time in Italy, least of all in May.

And Emilia Romagna was the region most affected: the partial monthly rainfalls of some localities were impressive with 328mm in Sogliano al Rubicone and Sassuolo, 327mm in San Leonardo (Forlì) and Zola Predosa, 316mm in Faenza, 315mm in Formica Nord (Modena ), 309mm in Bologna. Impressive data, which highlight the exceptional nature of the moment and allow the drought that had hit the North in the past 18 months, now abundantly overcome, to be definitively archived in the annals of the climatic history of Italy.

In the last 48 hours alone, over 200mm of rain has fallen in the most affected areas of the Region, as we can see from the ARPAE map. Virtually all of the area in red, fuchsia and purple is flooded. Due to the floods caused by swollen rivers, most of the areas in orange are also affected, i.e. where less than 100mm of rain has fallen:





Everything from Bologna to Rimini is flooded , so much so that road and rail traffic is completely blocked. The situation is dramatic: at the moment there are 4 dead and 4 missing but the authorities clarify that it is a provisional balance and that there are many countries submerged in water, still not reached by rescuers and of which there is no news. The roads are completely impassable, you can only travel by dinghy, and connections are difficult due to widespread and extensive electrical blackouts. The displaced people are several thousand.




This extreme situation is caused by a violent Afro-Mediterranean cyclone which in the past few hours has swept across Italy from the Maghreb to the Adriatic, fueling severe bad weather throughout the country as widely announced by the weather forecasts since last week. And to think that yesterday morning there were even those who argued against the "red" alert launched well in advance by the civil protection in the areas hit by the flood!

The latest update of the satellite maps highlights the persistence of cyclonic circulation over Italy, which means further bad weather also in the next few hours:

Addition • Italy (Maj 2023)

I had forgotten this map / illustration of rainfalls over Italy in my earlier post. The thing is, that Italy had TWO major rain events - (plus the ongoing low pressure area adding even more rain). in the past 24 hours, it was pretty bad for example in Turin.



The first event occurred 1-3 May, while the second happened in similar fashion over the same areas in Northern Italy on 16-17 May, together creating the severe flooding situation they are in now, as rainfalls are continuing.
