while I was reading this, I found that to be a pretty good idea..

The idea that the media is the gateway to public awareness is constantly reinforced. No amount of scientific authority, no amount or strength of evidence seems to matter. If the media says one thing, the public will buy it. Without access to the media there really is no hope, and videos such as this are just proof of that.

Yes. Reading things like "Strangers to Ourselves" and "Thinking, fast and slow" tell us a lot about why our world is the way it is because people are the kinds of machines they are and few of them are aware of it and therefore unable to overcome it.

One of the things that struck me in these books was the thing about familiar things being trusted more. If there was a way to get words like "cassiopaea", "sott.net", "eiriu eolas" out there in a big way without any promotion whatsoever - just the words - they would become way more familiar and would therefore find "resonance" within people (machines like "resonance" which is just System 1 in operation.)

Posters, graffiti, stickers, billboards... that sort of thing could really turn things around.

I don't know how many of you carry stickers around in your pockets and constantly put them in places where they will be seen often, but it's a small thing that everyone can do cheaply. I think we have a thread somewhere talking about it. But you don't even have to get fancy: just words printed on a few sheets of mailing labels.

If we all could find ways to make stickers, Placards etc with words in it like Eiriu-Eolas, SOTT (Signs Of The Times), The Dot Connector Magazine, Political Ponerology, Cassiopaea, Quantum Future etc. and then put them on every corner where a lot of people will see it I'm sure it will make a big not liniar difference!

It doesn't have to be a lot of writing but those key words should be clearly visible.

for those who are not living in a English speaking country but websites, books, SOTT (from this network) etc are available in their language they could write them in their language and so on...

maybe there are printing companys in your area who would print those things on stickers Placards etc ?

Edit: spelling

I think, spreading keywords like SOTT, Eiriu Eolas etc. on stickers and other means and then putting them in this or that corner is a very good idea. This is one option - a good one, I think. But you need money to buy the materials and you need to invest time, to do the graphics, and more money is needed to put them into print.

There is an alternative option in my head, that I have once read about in another context: To just write these keywords and the web addresses on paper money. When it is being spent in the store or elsewhere, it will spread to different people. The disadvantage I see with that method however is, that it might not be such an eye catcher as stickers, flyers, placards etc. I also don't know, if legal consequences can arise from writing on paper money.

Maybe both alternatives are possible, together with other ideas, which might still come up. My two cents :)

I just ordered 100 simple 2*9 cm stickers saying 'Sott . net' in white on blue background (app. 20 euro with shipping). If their durability is good I'll order more for other keywords. I checked around for deals on stickers, ones where you send a .pdf or .eps and receive minimum a box of 1000 or so at generally around 100 euro, which is too much right now. I ended up choosing a site where you can design the sticker online and can choose lesser amounts.

I was thinking about this also.

But I was thinking of website addresses on something useful that people would keep because they have practical use like pens or fridge magnets and had been looking around this site: http://www.vistaprint.com.au

Or keychains, USB sticks or bottle openers :http://www.promotionalkeychains.biz/tradeshow-promotional-item-giveaways.html

Then there are the personalised gifts you can design yourself at Cafe Press http://www.cafepress.com/make/personalized-gifts

Some of these options are a little more expensive though so may only suitable for sharing around friends and family rather than for mass distribution.

On this subject I remember there being an EE brochure that we could download and print but I haven't been able to find it. Does anyone have a link to it? I'm working in a physiotherapist practice and I'm sure the boss would be open to having some of the brochures on the reception desk.

Include "Quantum Future" in your list of things to put on stickers. I'll try to find out if anybody knows about the EE brochure.

Actually, I was just thinking about printing the words on simple address labels that you can get pretty cheap and can design in Word pretty easily. Like "Quantum Future: SOTT.net" and "Quantum Future: Eiriu Eolas" and "Quantum Future: Dot Connector" "Quantum Future: Cassiopaea" - that sort of thing.

Now, if we could only get some terrific graphic artists to get the word out... and maybe someday, hire some billboards or get a few TV spots...

I like this idea too.

Google has lower cost TV advertising that might be doable.

Here's a youtube video explaining how Slate did it, how much they spent and what their results were:

I was searching for how to make stickers easy at home and found this little guy :

how to make home made stickers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLdM96fcPiw&feature=related

I searched for pictures on google and redesigned via Power Point and changed the writings a bit partly into my language (german)
that is the result as of yet:

eiriueolas2UJKKQ.png

then I duplicated those pictures on "Word" :

druckversion84JKG.png

then I printed them , cut each one out and followed what that boy did. now I have 8 Stickers (more or less water proofed) even though I think there must be a better or improved technique to make them more easy and more professional..

I'll think I go out this evening and put some up in the city near by

can you give me a short feedback on the first sticker ?

while I'm thinking about it maybe it could be misconceived by the people who read this ?
but thinking again it says essentially " Attention! SOTT" the first two lines are in english the second two are the same in german (but with the link to the german SOTT) not mentioning what exactly "Attention" means in that context. I guess this will make some interested in finding out why there is "Attention!"?.
but in the other hand it could be interpreted as "Attention ! SOTT" is dangerous....

IMO it depends how elaborate it should get. More elaborate means, that it would be then useful to let it professional print.
I will see with what I can come up and work on some examples, logos are also useful to remember and I will keep it simple.

And Alada did the "older" EE brochure if I remember it correctly:

n122742624433018_817.jpg

Some logos5x5…

And there are always these versions available for printing:
https://de.sott.net/page/4-Promote-Sott-net#p1

The German counterparts are here (not all are published yet):

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.189962411056474.60361.167957026590346&type=3

And for the German folks I still have a lot flyers around with the older cropcircle pictures and some psychopath rule the world flyers (high quality postcards).

Pashalis feedback: The colour catches the eye but layout is a bit dodgy and may detract from memory caching interest. I think small messages like stickers that are to be read in passing have to be brief and to the point. De.Sott.Net (zeichen der zeit) would be sufficient, imo.

Well, that's actually a funny thing. A colleague of mine did once an internship at a marketing company or university. I can't exactly remember what it was. They tested exactly this way of spreading information. A small dummy website was created. Its web address was put on paper money and the money was distributed in schools mostly, universities, etc. People got 10€ for doing surveys and similar things. And of course, website visitations were recorded over a long period of time. This experiment was part of a study. They observed a dramatic increase of visitors against their initial expectations (factor 100 or so). This method worked very well!

Well then... maybe we should try it as a survey? Just on one dollar bills?

I think, this would be an interesting thing to try and to look what might come up. In Europe we could do this on 5 or 10 € notes.

I agree with parallel, Pashalis. For potential German readers, de.sott.net (Zeichen der Zeit) will suffice. Those who are able to read English will find their way to the English section soon enough. ;)

Regarding your concern, that the attention sign might convey danger: to me it doesn't come across as that. But I don't know how this would go with others who don't know SOTT yet. Maybe the triangle can be left out and only the exclamation mark stays - but in this case on the end or at the beginning of the little line. Or alternatively there can be a shining light bulb with (or without) an exclamation mark in it, but in this case the background colour needs to be changed. I also would forego the red colour, because as far I know, Red does convey 'danger' to many people in our Western culture.

These are just some thoughts, FWIW. Let's see, what others might add...

EDIT: vocabulary

These are good ideas with which to experiment, but I just wanted to throw this out. Can writing on money be used to attack the websites for defacing money?
