Dirt crop circles

Ever heard of Verneukpan in South Africa? I doubt it but I was there in 1976, however this is not my story. Verneukpan is a depression in the wide open arid Kalahari desert; about 120 km East of ALKANTPAN -

Now you can refer to our beloved Google Earth. Go to 30.00'20 South and 21.06'00 East. Zoom in, you will notice a triangle, then you will see spirals ...spirals and more spirals. Funny thing, if you activate the Google Earth History, there were an earlier scan of this area in 2006 - NO SPIRALS. Not only spirals, but straight lines 100 m wide by 3 km long as well as other shapes.

Pan around and see more and more and more sites. In total I estimate a few hundred spirals in at least 22 sites. I doubt a farmer will spend hundreds of thousands of rands to make these spirals; less so the stupid Government - if human made at all. Fuel is far away and expensive, so are operating time on tractors to make these. Some shapes does seems to be prior and appears on Google Earth back in 2005 (Earliest images).

Now use Google and see various photo's writings, etc.

A comment in the first link says this:
"According to friend of the farmer: If you look at Google Earth pictures of 2006 and prior, you will notice that there are no ditches present, only a few dams. The farmer that owns the land on which the spirals that you see is situated, took a tractor and used a plough to make deep spiralshape ditches with the intention of catching the water run-off. These ditches work very well and had a significant effect of improvement on the grazing on that farm. I wonder why, and does this work catching the water run-off? I mean running water would just flatten it all out again?"

Sounds plausible to me...
