Doomsday Preppers

Mr Meowgi

The Cosmic Force
I did not know exactly where to put this so move it if need be. My wife asked me to watched a show she taped of the DVR, it was called Doomsday preppers. It deals with people preparing for the end of the world scenarios. One woman was preparing kits for pandemics, others preparing for economic collapse and others still for a polar shift. In the 1980s I had considered doing this perhaps even before, but something always talked me out of it. Now mind you both of us are children of depression babies and do keep a well stocked pantry. I know this show is yet another form of propaganda but to what end. I could see a few pandemics coming down the pike and have read enough to know how to prepare thanks to this groups tireless efforts. I just wanted to share this to see what others thought.

I recently watched a few minutes of a doomsday preparedness show – it may even be the one you referred to, Mr. Meowgi. While I think paying attention to reality and making some preparation is a good idea, I think most of these folks are simply going overboard and wasting their energy. All that preparation can be wiped out in a flash by mother nature.

What I see as being more important than stockpiling a bunch of “meals-in-a-bag”, is changing how we eat - becoming fat burners instead of glucose burners. Or rather, being diesel engines instead of gas engines. As fat burners, we become a much more efficient system.

It seems to me, that the advice coming from the C’s is gradually, step by step, allowing us to become much less dependent on the system. If all you need for health is a slab of fatty meat, you’re much better off than the guy that needs to graze on carbs all day long for satiation.

In addition to that, as some forum members have found, you don’t NEED shampoo to wash your hair. And you don’t NEED store bought toothpaste. Little by little, I see there is not much you NEED to buy at the local Wal-Mart. So by taking steps to lessen our dependency on the system, the better off we’ll be when this system crumbles.

My 2 cents worth. :)

Edit: spelling

You're totally right, Lilou. Not only about the diet, but all those products. I haven't used them in years. It's healthier AND cheaper to NOT use toothpaste and shampoo.

I am eating far more meat this winter and far less carbs. I eat eggs bacon and home made gluten free toast in the morning. Having owed a diesel VW beetle I know they like to run hot!

So true! The more natural you eat too, the less toxins in your body. So your body will naturally balance itself through homoeostasis.

I don't use lotion, (natural oils if absolutely necessary in cold weather). I do not shampoo any more and am looking into buying either baking soda and peroxide for teeth care, or a animal-fat-free soap for my teeth, maybe a drop of mint oil on top?
Also possibly grow some mint leaves to chew..

What do you use? Do you just brush without anything?

Thanks,

Willow

I have an oregano tooth powder (oregano oil, sodium, baking soda, and mint) another which has cinnamon instead of oregano oil. But most of the time, I just use baking soda and salt and sometimes add xylitol (very good against cavities).

No shampoo. I just use a little bit of conditioner. I haven't used shampoo for more than 3 years, probably closer to 4. And no toothpaste for more than 10 years.

Thank you! I've heard of xylitol, very tasty!

Doomsday Preppers is there to exploit those types of people to look like paranoid idiots.

Number one rule in Prepping, don't tell anyone you're doing it or you will be a HUGE target if your doomsday scenario actually happens. (only like-minded people you trust). So that they're on national TV showing all they have is a sign that they're a little off.

I've watched a few of those shows and personally know a lot of preppers. It seems they pick the ones that are a kinda goofy to discredit the concept. There are LOTS of preppers that are normal everyday people that just see the writing on the wall.

Also, although each one may have a certain idea of what's coming down the road, they (as are all preppers) preparing for ANYTHNG that is in the realm of possibility. The show makes them pick one scenario only (which again makes them seem paranoid).

Just an interesting note, that shows that SilverJeep was correct about keeping "quiet",or what military people call"OpSec" (Operational Security). One of these preppers on the show has already been "targeted".Although, from what this prepper says, it seemed as though it was from a visit to a physician that created the whole situation the prepper found himself in. The prepper/article says he was deemed "mentally defective"by the state of Tennessee,USA., had his weapons confiscated, & unable to own, purchase, or carry. (2nd Amendment rights).

I am not sure of the validity of the article, its' writer, nor the prepper person. & really am not concerned about this. I was just noting that what SilverJeep had posted appeared to be a correct outlook, IMO.

I place the link to this article/videos ,if anyone wants to be curious. I read the short article & watched about half of the first video & got bored, then moved on. Only coincidence seems to have made me find this particular Thread. I was actually looking up some wild edibles information that caused me to stumble upon the website & this article.

ok,I have to admit i am a kinda prepper myself...and have been for 25 years
it started for me with the book 1984,it really scared me and motivated me to get out while I could
I was lucky enough to find this little pocket on the planet where people still dont lock their houses or cars, you know all of your neighbours in a 50km radius personally and people get together to network

true, but where does your slab of fatty meat come from?

so now I am in the process of setting up a community based free range GMO free pig breeding venture to put that fatty meat on the table of everyone here who chooses to be a fat burner

defeating MONSANTO one backyard garden at a time

there are already plenty of grassfed cattle farmers, bee keepers, berry farms and avocado and macadamia growers
and even a bio-dynamic dairy, so apart from local bacon we are pretty much set to be less dependent from the system
ice age wise, from what i have been able to find out, this area has never been under a glacier, not even during the coldest part of the last ice age ca. 20,000y ago

since the lithosphere is not going to shift too much ,I hope, when and if perpendicularity to the ecliptic is restored ,meaning no more seasonal changes and the same weather all year round, we should be fine on that count too here

of cause no-one can really prepare for comets,I would love to build a long barrow, but I dont think I could build one big enough for everyone :/
so if they hit here so be it

I'd say that if people really want to be prepared for things like pandemics (which are a pretty high probability) they should be long on the paleo diet to increase their resistance, and probably have some tobacco around to smoke to keep healthy. It probably takes a year or so for the DNA switches to take place on the Paleo diet, so being prepared means running a different system altogether.

For now, it is from the freezer. :P In the future, that may or may not change. And perhaps, only how it is sourced will change. Or, I may have to move and everything will change! I can only stay aware and make decisions as the situation unfolds.

Since no one can know where earth changes will strike, having the ability to move becomes just as relevant. Having the mindset of a “hunter-gatherer” would help. OSIT. Still, the most important thing is to prepare ourselves, with diet, with EE, with networking. This opens our eyes to see events as they come and with better awareness, make better choices.

I think this is the heart of being prepared. It's not where you are, but who you are and what you see.

So it's pretty easy to make ones own tooth paste. Thanks. :)

Thank you all for your insight! I have some book shopping to do. I have, as much as possible, gotten away from wheat bread and am making buckwheat bread. I get organic bacon from our local public market and brown eggs. I cook my eggs in the bacon grease and use Amish butter on my toast. I am as active as possible at this time as I have planters fibromas on the bottoms of both feet right in the arches. These are painful. Surgery is scheduled for April second. I'll be off my feet for a bit so I can catch up on some reading.
