We watched the TV series Dopesick on Disney+ and all we knew was that it was based on a non-fiction book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company that Addicted America by Beth Macy
We thought throughout the series that this was a fictional family, that it couldn't be that something like this really happens and "people" are really like that. In the end we were proved wrong, this family really does exist. It is really well done and shows what power the pharmaceutical industry can have.
The drug it's about is Oxycontin and I knew the drug from my mother's cancer, it also gave her a lot of relief in the last few weeks. But I didn't know how much abuse happened with it. I really recommend the series... even if you already know a lot in theory, it is presented here once again in an unsparing way. It really opened my eyes to this unspeakable power in some points.
