Dr Spock

Esoterica

The Force is Strong With This One
I have been reading Wave 8 and have been very struck by the subject of imprinting raised in the Way of the Fool chapter, especially in relation to circumcision and the effect that has on Jewish male babies to 'bind' them to their religion.

It then bought to mind the subject of Dr Spock's childcare theories as being a Spock baby myself, I wondered if the methods advocated by Dr Spock meant that my imprinting would have been different from 'usual' as I have always suffered from a distinct feeling of not belonging and not accepting the 'cultural norm'.

It is that lack of acceptance I have to thank I guess for bringing me in a round about way to the forum. My partner being a Spock baby as well has the same 'questioning mind' and is also a forum member.

It was also interesting to note that Spock's ideas were later discredited by the PTB, however I wonder if that was because of his connection to MLK, political and social activism or if his childcare theories were causing too many waves.

Interesting also he changed his mind about the benefits of circumcision!

In the 1940s, Spock initially favored circumcision of males performed within a few days of birth. However, in 1989, in an article for Redbook magazine, he stated that "circumcision of males is traumatic, painful, and of questionable value."[
