Drawing a line in the sand...

The Force is Strong With This One
This is a tiny article in my local paper, with next to no information on the appearance or any hint of a thought on what it means, but it'll be pretty clear to anybody here who reads it.
Drawing a line in the sand

It seems strange that someone would have the urge to do this, and only hope that it gets noticed before the tide comes in. Luckily they got an aerial view of it in time.

What strikes me about it is it says 'you are here' not we?

I think "you are here" is copying the way maps in shoppping malls etc pin point the position of the map reader - "you are here".

I'm not sure exactly what was in the mind of the designer, but it could be saying that 2003 was a peak of something and from there it started to declined rapidly and we will be at the level of year 1000 in 2200!

Sorry the number on the left of the graph is 1850, you can see it clearer in the newspaper, so the graph fits the population of the world for that time period. Its a grim prediction that in reality could turn out even grimmer with the end graph point still in the 21st century.

oh yeah! Looking closer I think there's a line going from "you are here" to the peak of the graph. So basically somone is saying that in 190 years the population will have dropped drastically? Their timing may be a little off though.
