Drone briefly shuts down operations at Dublin airport

Dublin airport told passengers on its Twitter page that it had suspended operations at 1149 GMT, before resuming 15 minutes later.

“We apologize for any inconvenience. The safety and security of passengers is always our key priority,” Dublin airport said on Twitter.

Ireland’s transport minister called a special meeting of the National Civil Aviation Threat and Risk Group last month to assess the incidents at UK airports involving possible drone activity and the implications for Ireland.

Drones are prohibited from operating within 5 kilometers (3 miles) of Irish airports during periods of aircraft operations, unless the operator has given permission to do so.

Transport Minister Shane Ross said last month he would take appropriate action if further steps were required to improve how the state can respond to the threat of illegal drone activity around Irish airports.

Police think Gatwick worker may have launched drone attack, Times says
A drone attack that crippled London's Gatwick Airport for three days may have been carried out by a disgruntled current or former airport employee, British police believe, according to The Times.

Fresh drone warning after latest closure of Dubai airport

A statement from a Dubai Airports spokesperson read: “Dubai Airports confirms that flight departures from Dubai International were suspended between 1013 hours and 1045 hours UAE local time due to suspected drone activity.

“Dubai Airports has worked closely with the appropriate authorities to ensure that the safety of airport operations is maintained at all times and to minimise any inconvenience to our customers.”

Dubai Media Office tweeted: “Dubai Airports confirms that operations at Dubai International are back to normal after less than 30 minutes of delay due to unauthorized drone activity.

This is not the first time the Dubai airport has been closed due to drone activity. The airport was among the first in the world to encounter the problem in 2015, when it was shut for 55 minutes.

Three more incidents occurred in 2016, two lasting 30 minutes and a third spanning 115 minutes.

Gulf News reported just last month that Dubai Civil Aviation Authority had even been approached by airport authorities in the UK from Gatwick and Heathrow for advice on how to deal with drone incursions following their own incidents in London in December and January.

Gatwick’s closure from December 19-21 lasted 33 hours, while Heathrow’s incident on January 8 was just an hour.

Newark Liberty International Airport Shut down After Drone Sighting

Newark Liberty International Airport in the United States was closed on Tuesday after two separate reports of a drone flying in the area. The airport has resumed its normal operations.

There’s something (inaudible) here. We don’t; we thought maybe it was a drone. But there’s definitely something (inaudible) here,” audio from air traffic control says.

“Yes, sir. Object, and it definitely looks like a drone,” the recording continues. “We missed the drone by about 30 feet off the wing.”

The incident comes just weeks after drones sighting at Gatwick airport in London caused delays in hundreds of flights. The drones were spotted at around 5 p.m. only 3,500 feet above Teterboro Airport which is just 20 miles from the major Newark airport.

Flights grounded for two hours
Teterboro Airport is a small airport catering to private planes. All flights were immediately suspended at Newark Airport following the sightings, but planes were permitted to land just 45 minutes later.

UPDATE 2-U.S. FAA says drone sightings temporarily halted traffic into Newark Airport

Reports of drone sightings in northern New Jersey temporarily halted arrivals at Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.

A spokesman from the FAA said flights into Newark - the 11th busiest U.S. airport - were briefly suspended after two drones were seen flying at 3,500 feet over nearby Teterboro Airport, a small regional airport about 17 miles away that mostly handles corporate jets and private planes. The federal agency said information about the drone sightings was turned over to law enforcement.

The airport in the Libyan capital Tripoli was closed on Saturday due to an unidentified drone flying in the area, the airport's director said.

Residents have repeatedly spotted drones flying over Tripoli in the past few days but the reason is not clear. Flights from Tripoli’s Matiga airport have been halted until further notice,
said its director Lutfi al-Tayeb.

People in the capital have been on edge due to rumours that the eastern-based Libya National Army (LNA) loyal to Khalifa Haftar might seek to take it after gaining control of much of the south.

Haftar has not said he wants to march on Tripoli but a LNA website carried an unsourced report this week saying it could happen, adding that the LNA was working with people inside the city.

The United Nations, alarmed about the possibility of a military escalation, is mediating between Haftar, who is allied to a parallel government in the east, and Tripoli premier Fayez al-Serraj who heads the U.N.-backed administration. The U.N. has been trying for years to pull the oil producer out of conflict but made little progress.

A drone sighting on Friday prompted a 30-minute stoppage of air traffic at Frankfurt airport, one of the world's busiest, an airport spokesman said.

Drone sighting prompted 30-minute air traffic stoppage at Frankfurt airport March 22, 2019

Air traffic was halted from around 5.15 p.m. until 5.45 p.m., the spokesman said.

The incident involved a single drone and flights were back to normal, the airport wrote on Twitter. “No chaos,” it said.

A spokeswoman for Germany’s state-owned DFS air traffic controller said federal police searched the air space with helicopters before deciding to reopen it after 30 minutes.

A federal police spokesman confirmed that a drone sighting had been reported, but the police had so far been unable to confirm there was a drone. No suspects had been identified and the investigation was continuing, he said.

Thilo Vogt, a senior official with DFS, last month said drone sightings reported by pilots nearly doubled to 158 in Germany in 2018.

The incident came after drone sightings caused three days of travel chaos at London’s Gatwick Airport in December, resulting in the cancellation or diversion of about 1,000 flights at an estimate cost of more than 50 million pounds.

Reuters recently reported of a drone sighting over Forsmark nuclear power plant in Sweden, the 'largest electricity provider in the country'. The police attempted to locate the drone but it had 'disappeared'.

There were also unconfirmed reports of a similar sighting at Ringhals nuclear power plant in Sweden (full article below).

To me, it seems notable what with the current pressure on countries like Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the NATO-Russia tension. The incident also brings to mind the two recent reports of damaged cables in Norway.

Below the article are two exchanges from two different C's sessions: one regarding the drone sightings above power plants in France and how the group behind the activity 'NSA/Mossad, close enough'. The other covers the spate of sightings at UK airports back in 2018, the exchange alleged UFOs.

With regards to Sweden's recent sightings, i'd guess the warning explanation makes more sense.

Anyway, for the record:

Police in Sweden deployed patrols and helicopters to the Forsmark nuclear plant to hunt for a large drone seen flying over the site late on Friday, but were unable to catch the unmanned vehicle, they said on Saturday.

The incident came a day after Sweden's military started patrolling the main town on the Baltic Sea island of Gotland amid increased tensions between NATO and Russia and a recent deployment of Russian landing craft in the Baltic.

Forsmark, which is Sweden's biggest electricity producer, lies on the Baltic coast about 150 km (93 miles) north of the capital, Stockholm.

Police saw the drone, first spotted by a security guard, moving around the plant before disappearing towards the island of Graso.

"Police continue to try to locate the drone, even with their own (drones), but without success," the police force said in an incident report on its website, adding that there were no signs the drone had dropped anything in the area or landed.

It also cited unconfirmed reports of possible drone sightings at the Ringhals nuclear plant on the country's west coast.

The sightings at France's nuclear plants:
(Pierre) I have a question about those drones. Many drones have been observed over French nuclear plants. Are these really drones?

A: Yes.

Q: (Pierre) Who is operating them?

A: Wouldn't you and the army like to know?

Q: (Andromeda) So it's not the army...

(Perceval) It's probably just... Okay, so it's not just some locals.

(Pierre) It's over the whole country - for weeks.

A: Who is spying on everyone everywhere?

Q: (Perceval) NSA.

(Pierre) Mossad.

A: Close enough!

Q: (Pierre) Why?

A: Keeping the pressure on France.

Q: (Pierre) Like a threat.

(Perceval) The NSA is trying to scare the French political establishment by flying drones over nuclear power plants.

(Pierre) To not switch to Russia, or...

(Perceval) ...an "accident" is gonna happen.

2018's UK airport sightings:

(Joe) What were the drones that were reported around Gatwick airport about a week ago. They caused the airport to shut down. Were they drones?

A: No

Q: (Joe) Were they UFOs?

A: Yes

Q: (Niall) And then a few days later at the Birmingham airport?

A: Yes

Q: (Joe) What were they doing, just freaking people out?

A: Yes

Q: (Joe) Just for fun, eh?

A: Yes

Few links that come to mind, :
