Ear infection

monotonic

The Living Force
Hi everyone. I have a infection of the ear canal and the tympanic membrane. The doctor sent me home with this:

Eardrops - Neomycin and Polymycin B Sulfates and Hyrdrocortisone otic Suspension USP
4 drops in ear 4 times per day

Azithromycin 250mG tablets
2 tablets once a day

Amoxicillin and Clavulanate potassium tablets
One tablet twice a day

I was also given a Rocephin shot.

The ear is swollen almost shut. The pain is tolerable but not amenable to much activity.

As far as I know infections like that can get pretty serious, so extra caution and a strong anti bacterial/infection protocol sounds like the right thing to do at the moment to me.

Yes, I think you should take the antibiotics and follow the instructions. Don't forget to take pro-biotics and take care! Maybe a plus can be colloidal silver? I don't know, maybe others can say if it can help.

That is an excellent protocol, I would not hesitate to take it myself. Remember that your brain is next to the ear. That is why antibiotics for ear infections are usually very strong.

It's not Cipro like drugs. The only thing is that you'll need probiotics and probably during the course of this week to prevent diarrhea from the clavulanate. Saccharomyces boulardi is a good option for this week, if not available, any good one would do.

Hope you get better soon.

Just went to the local grocery/pharmacy and the only thing containing S. Boulardii was kombucha from the refreshments. I guess I will use that until I can get to the refrigerated probiotics at the health food store.

How about ordering Saccharomyces Boulardii online? Or maybe there is a branch nearby that has it?

Just wanted to wish you good luck treating your ear infection, monotonic, and I hope you feel better soon

All the best for your ear recovery, monotonic!

I just wanted to mention that I'm ALSO dealing with an ear thing at the moment. Hearing dropped in my Right ear to about 20% volume.

Then, foolishly, I didn't "listen" to the advice about being careful with Q-tips, and dug around in there trying to free up what I figured was probably ear wax. I came out with blood!

I went to the doctor and they said, "Yep. Impacted ear wax. And then you injured yourself. Don't do that." A friend advised, "My grandma said never to put anything in your ear smaller than a football."

I have to wait until that heals, then apply drops of oil, (I picked up some organic olive oil for the job) and do that every night for a week to soften the earwax and then go back to have it, "Syringed" (whatever that means. I think they blast it with water? We'll see.)

Just out of curiosity... What ear is your infection in?

Have you been not "listening" to the universe? I know I've been negligent recently, making a bit of a hash out of deciding where and how to move house.

Woodsman, I also have recently had impacted wax from doing exactly what you were doing. I didn't bleed, but I managed to make myself deaf in that ear!
So, I had the ear syringed, and it's all back to normal.
The syringe is a gadget that pumps warm water into your ear as a series of pulses which dislodges the wax. I'm sure you'll be fine with it.

As for Monotonic's infection, with all those antibiotics, he probably won't have a bug left in his body.
Get well soon, mate!

Similar story here... It started as the usual once-per-2-months ear soreness and I wanted to try and get rid of it quicker. Ultimately I think I disturbed the bacteria balance as well as abrading the very delicate skin there, causing the infection to get much worse.

Left ear.

I can't think of what the ear problem could be symbolically related to, but I can see that a common element between our problems is trying to fix something we don't really understand (with Q-tips). Both of our issues would have resolved themselves eventually. The cure was worse than the illness. At least I may get some useful overall cleaning effects with the antibiotics, but that's also a risk since they can disturb a good microbiome as well as a bad one.

I have the same problem 3-4 weeks ago. It was my left ear. It happened during the weekend so I had to wait until Monday so I can go to a doctor.
While waiting I tried to clean it up by myself. I took a small piece of soft napkin paper and made a " tool" that I can put in my ear trying to clean it. I ended up with irritated ear channel that hurt.
At the hospital, the doctor said it was not an earwax. They said that they see something white inside and that it was probably some small piece od a dead skin.
They tried with Hydrogen peroxide but without success. Then they put me some paraffin oil inside and cover the ear for the whole day. After that, they tried to wash it with a water pressure but it was impossible to do anything because all the time they were saying that it is clear of earwax. Finally, something clicked inside my ear and It was better.Next few days I felt better and better.

When my son was a little baby, my homeopath gave me one remedy called Pulsatilla i think. That remedy helped with an ear infection in a matter of a day.
Later, I have used the same remedy for my son when he has an ear infection and it always cleared the infection in a day or two.
Sometimes it was only that remedy and sometimes a combination of a few.

I hope that you will be better Monotonic.Ear infections can be very painful.

Neomycin + Polymycin + Azithromycin + Amoxicillin and Clavulanate + Rocephin shot ?? :scared: :scared:

Incredible! Never seen that in ear infection.
If it's external otitis (following cleaning of the ear canal, for example): No antibiotic is usefull. No one! The treatment is local (example: colloidal silver, as loreta mentionned).

If it's otitis media: no antibiotic is needed! The treatment is to treat a nasal or sinus infection because it's often the root of a media ear infection. Antitbiotic in otitis is indicated only if child < 4years, if chilf all age or adult with complication outside ear.
And in these cases, it's usually 1 antibiotic (not 3)

In medical recommendations, it's said to not give antibiotics (if non complicated, ie no cerebral sign, no signs of matoiditis, etc...) but see the patient at H48: if no agravation, following the same (pills against pain essentially, +/- inflammation).

I'm very surprised about the many antibiotics your doctor prescribed.
I agree with Konstantin: homeopathy is a good indication in otitis media.

Ear canal: so, it's external otitis: NO antibiotic required, but corticoid is usefull for few days 3-5 days usually.
It's very easy to differenciate external from media otitis: If touching your ear auricle provocates pain, then it's external otitis, ie media (middle) ear is safe.
