Hope you get better soon monotonic. I had my ear flushed after some pain from wax impaction about 2 years ago I think. I recall it was uncomfortable and just on the verge of painful. The flushing pressure against my eardrum was enough to make me cringe.
Doctors often say that.
In external otitis, they don't correctly see the tympanum, so they prefer to say "both" instead of admitting "I haven't really saw the tymapnum". Moreover, in external otitis, the inflammation can spread to tympanum but that doen't mean otitis media.
Both type of otitis are nearly never associated.
