Earthquakes around the world

Felt like a soft bounce here. But when this whole thing started the first one was the 7.0, three minutes later the 5.8 went off at the geysers south of me 3 minutes later, then it disappeared, I felt it. Government coverup, don’t want people to know that pumping sewer water into an active volcano is not the best idea. Haiku … (see image)

really? well, shit in = shit out ? its called circular economy...

We haven't felt any of the aftershocks...yet.

Expect at least another strong one around M5 low or at worst M6+. For this strong earthquake, 44 aftershocks (Between magnitude 2+ and M4+) have been detected so far. The strongest was a magnitude 4.7 quake that hit 2 minutes after the mainshock

The earthquake was the strongest to hit this part of the United States in over 19 years. A magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit on Tuesday, Jun 14, 2005, at 06:50 pm

There are posts on X that mention hearing loud booms and bangs in the past few days. Take care California friends.

Here in Oregon I received the tsunami warning emergency alert on my phone. I was at work at the time, so every phone in the room went off. Not that long before this the fire alarm went off as we we had a fire drill. Made for a noisy morning.

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT DECEMBER 05_2024

High levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24 hours. A M7.0 earthquake occurred Offshore Cape Mendocino, California.

M 7.0 - 2024 Offshore Cape Mendocino, California Earthquake
2024-12-05 18:44:19 (UTC)
40.370°N 125.025°W. 0.6 km depth

The earthquake occurred in the Mendocino Triple Junction. At this point off the coast of California near Cape Mendocino, three major faults meet: the Cascadia Subduction Zone, the San Andreas Fault and the Mendocino Fracture Zone. Three tectonic plates: the Pacific, North American and Gorda plates are also butting up against one another. The Gorda Plate is plunging under, or "subducting" beneath, the North American Plate. This movement formed the Cascade Range.

California earthquake occurred along active fault, experts say. Aftershocks expected

The earthquake occurred along the Mendocino Fracture Zone, which is an active area that frequently experiences events of this magnitude.

“This is an area in Northern California that’s highly tectonically active,” Stephen DeLong, a Supervisory Research Geologist with the USGS, said during a press briefing. “It’s an area where they’re at least three different tectonic plates that move in different directions and at different speeds. And because of that, earthquakes occur frequently.”

Waves from the M7.0

As has been observed on other occasions, M5+ clusters and the presence in a planetary geometry of Venus and/or Mercury precede major events.

There were not many atmospheric anomalies in the last two weeks, but of those the region near today's M 7.0 earthquake was marked 15 days earlier, on 20 November. Too long in my opinion and hardly actionable, but still.

The situation with Earth between Venus and Mars remains critical and the number of M 7+ earthquakes is still well below average. We're almost 2 years without a M 7.8+ and 3.5 years without M 8+. So we know some regions on the planet are probably near the tipping point of a big one. Please keep this in mind.

The earthquake occurred in the Mendocino Triple Junction.
I'm reminded of the two earthquakes that occurred exactly one year apart at the Mendocino Triple Junction in northern California: first the December 20, 2021 6.2 earthquake, then the December 20, 2022 6.4 earthquake.

I also think of the following session excerpt:
More California seismic activity after 1st of year: San Diego, San Bernardino, North Bakersfield, Barstow: all are fracture points. Hollister, Palo Alto, Imperial, Ukiah, Eureka, Point Mendocino, Monterrey, Offshore San Luis Obispo, Capistrano, Carmel: these are all stress points of fracture in sequence. "Time" is indefinite. Expect gradual destruction of California economy as people begin mass exodus. Also, Shasta erupts; Lassen activity. Ocean floor begins to subside.

Here in Oregon I received the tsunami warning emergency alert on my phone. I was at work at the time, so every phone in the room went off. Not that long before this the fire alarm went off as we we had a fire drill. Made for a noisy morning.

Felt it over here in Santa Rosa (200+ miles south). My coworkers and I all received an earthquake notification on our phones. Waited a bit and then a minute or two later we all felt dizzy or disoriented and felt then the swaying began - no jolt or rumble in this one.

Felt like I was on large boat. When the tsunami alert buzzed our phones all the device we test with went off at once 🫨, thankfully no tsunami.

Hearing it was near Humboldt, had a feeling it was near the “triple junction”. Suspect there are more on the way, stay safe ya’ll :flowers:

California Earthquake update

So far USGS has recorded 115 aftershocks between magnitudes 2 and 4 with 4.7 being the highest magnitude earthquake.

It is almost certain that there will be displacement of energy from the M7.0 earthquake towards Alaska, Mexico and Central America, but also towards the continental United States (as far as the east coast), in fact Texas has already recorded an M3.1 earthquake and New Mexico an M2.8

It is probable that an M6+ and in the worst case M7 earthquake could occur in Mexican territory or in Central America in the next few days (mainly between Guerrero and Guatemala) and earthquakes of lesser degree of M5+ worst case M6+ in Peru, Ecuador or northern Chile.
