Earthquakes around the world

I had not seen those videos, the first one is very close to my house, about 5 minutes away, and you can see a very strong movement at one moment, and before that maybe it is not very noticeable in the video but the movement was also very intense, and after that strong tremor, everything continued to move... I stayed still in my bed and I calculated about 7.4 degrees. In the argentine city of Mendoza, which is further from the epicenter with respect to my location, they measured it at 6.6 degrees, which perhaps coincides with my assessment, that it was more than 7 degrees, although they say that the intensity of each place depends on the "type of soil", but it still does not make much sense to me that they measured it with greater intensity in Argentina, than in the epicenter itself.

Here in the second video you can clearly see the intense movement in the pool.

Interesting. The earthquake occurred at a depth considered intermediate of 110 km that would have mitigated a little the intensity which was considered by USGS as moderate (five on a scale of ten where ten is an extreme intensity) Watching the videos it was too abrupt and of short duration, about 3 seconds of very strong intensity of a total of at least 5 seconds and from which the sensation was light.

If this earthquake had occurred at a shallow depth it would have been felt even stronger, as was the case with the California M7.0 earthquake with a depth of 10 km (revised because it was originally recorded at sea level 0.6 km, which led to speculation that the earthquake had been caused by a nuclear explosion test).

Usually this type of M6+ earthquakes do not cause a sensation among Chileans and it seems that this time it was not even the case. There are many videos in the networks of surprised people.

Three aftershocks have been detected so far The strongest was a magnitude 3.1 quake that hit 14 hours after the mainshock. An aftershock of magnitude 5+ may occur.

Last week saw 1M7 earthquake (in California, US) and 1 M6, a M6.0 in the Kuril islands.

SSGEOS still estimates the possibility of a significant event of magnitude 7.8 or higher in the next few days. It forecasts a 70% probability for M7+ and 50% for M8, hopefully not.
