A very strong magnitude 6.6 earthquake occurred in the North Pacific Ocean 103 km (64 mi) from Hokkaido,

Japan, in the early morning of Tuesday, Dec 9, 2025 at 6.52 am local time (GMT +9). The quake had a very shallow depth of 19 km (12 mi) and was felt by many near the epicenter. The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would.

Following M7.6 earthquake, authorities in Japan warn of the possibility of a mega-earthquake that could generate a tsunami of up to 30 meters. For the first time in history, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued an official warning that a large-magnitude earthquake could affect the north of the country in the coming days.

Japanese experts explain that the quake originated in a "seismic gap," an area where a lot of energy has accumulated, raising concerns about a major event. The government has issued a 7-day preventive alert, recommending that residents take precautions and stay informed.

Japan issues mega-quake advisory after M7.5 tremor​

Japan is on alert for a possible mega quake after a magnitude 7.5 tremor hit northern regions late on Monday, prompting tsunami warnings. Authorities say the next few days will be critical.

Japan's Meteorological Agency, or JMA, says a major tremor of magnitude 8 or higher could occur along the Japan Trench and the Chishima Trench off Hokkaido.

The advisory covers areas from Hokkaido to Chiba Prefecture, and is the first issued for the region since the mega-quake warning category was introduced in 2022.

Officials are urging people to check evacuation routes, make sure home furniture is secure, and prepare emergency kits, including food, water and portable toilets.

They stress that no evacuation recommendation has been issued, but they advise people to remain vigilant through next week.

Magnetic impacts (or magnetic precursors) for this region of South America were detected by Richard Cordaro hours before the events. The magnetic impacts recorded by magnetometers are proving to be a good tool for locating possible seismic events in the impacted regions.

There were a number of clear warning magnetic precursors ahead of the M 7.0 at Canada/Alaska on 2025-12-06. On the graph below I point out 3 good ones giving up to 2 hours warning. Stations like Yellowknife, Canada (YKC) are problematic because Canada embargoes its magnetic data for 24 hours, so only the entitled intelligencia of Canada will get a timely warning. I circled a quartet of alerts pointing to seismic potential in an area of the Eastern Pacific to the west of Central America to perhaps as far down as Chile. The magnetic anomaly of Moon-Mars 120°, forecast to come in over South America at 00:05 UTC looks complete with a strong leading edge and a weaker trailing edge. By now, I expected the alerts of the leading edge to be resolved by an M5+ earthquake in the Argentina/Northern Chile region. So far, just a lot of M4+ quakes. Give it a few more hours. ● Magnetic Precursor in the Mediterranean

Moon-Uranus 90°, our Number 2 ranked team for seismic influence, worked with Moon-Neptune 90° to produce a U-shaped magnetic anomaly. They also met their contract requirements by triggering two M 5+ earthquakes close to their assigned landing locations. The trailing edge energy may be traveling and starting to show in the Mediterranean region. Will we see a significant event in the coming hours after the lunar geometries: Moon-Earth-Saturn & Moon-Earth-Neptune on December 12?​

Even more critical are the lunar geometries mentioned for day 12. Frank mentions:
we have to look at the lunar conjunctions at the end that is with Saturn and with Neptune, because that is usually the indicator of potential large seismic activity following that lunar peak. So that would be on the 13th or 14th, around the 14th give or take one day. That could be critical, there could be significant seismic activity coming up as a result of the convergence of planetary geometry.

A cluster of quakes in Northern California not far from home. Although didn’t feel anything:

Dec. 14, 4:24 p.m. Sonoma County was hit by three earthquakes within a little more than half an hour Sunday, the largest one having a preliminary magnitude of 4.0, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first quake, centered near Glen Ellen in Sonoma County, struck at 3:30 p.m. at a depth of 1.18 miles. The USGS’ Did You Feel It? report included responses in San Francisco, Napa and Berkeley.

The second quake, registering at 3.1, hit at 3:38 p.m. and was also centered near Glen Ellen. It had a depth of 1.36 miles.

The third quake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.4 and was centered nearby in Kenwood. It struck at 4:04 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries or damage from any of the quakes.
