Western interests? Yes, there aren't many choices in the Middle East. But also for Egypt's interest. I'm not defending him tooth and nail, I'm no expert, but offering a perspective on his accomplishments for world culture. I believe he deserves some credit.

Just for the record, my Mom is not a salaried Professor of Egyptology, never worked for a museum nor got a university degree, nor author /expert: she's an artist who used to read Egyptian hieroglyphs to us kids right off the papyrus at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. She brought Art alive to us. And we knew the names of pharoahs and dieties rather than comix superheroes. She taught me to like Hawass because of his respect for Art.....I confess: I over-exaggerated her credentials. At the very last second, while typing and posting, I took out self-taught, avid amateur Egyptophile and left it simple. (dear Anart: I lied. But I'm calling it out for what it is. At least. )

it is good that you have the curage to tell us and yourself that you lied about the background of your mother.
you could ask yourself why you lied here in this manner.
maybe you wanted to support your believe with a lie about the qualifications of your mother in order to show that you must be right about this and to hide behind a facade of false credibility.
many people do this they lie about something to support their believe.
