"Electric cigarette explodes in Florida man’s mouth"

Amen Diane, we Canadians have a similar problem. 200% TAX on tobacco, wow.

I'm thinking of how to get around the nicotine problem. Planning to stop by my local vape store and talk to them about it. I'm sure I can think of something.

This article was just posted by the DailyMail describing two recent incidents of E-cigarette's exploding while charging in the car. In the first incident, the South Wales guy left it plugged in "overnight" in the car which might be considered "liability and neglect on his part" for the re-charge only takes four hours?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2430393/E-cigarette-wrecked-car-EXPLODED-like-firework-charged-overnight-leaving-seats-destroyed-windows-blackened.html

A motorist said today that his car was wrecked when his electronic cigarette exploded while charging.
Chris Thomas, 37, said the e-cigarette shot out of the 12V power socket 'like a firework' and landed on the back seat of his Skoda company car, setting fire to the upholstery.

Flames destroyed the rear seat and a child seat, scorched the front headrests and visors and left all the windows badly smoke blackened.

Father of three Mr Thomas, from Maesycwmmer, South Wales, says he had left the £29.99 device charging overnight in the 12V power socket of his company-owned Skoda Superb.

The vehicle engineer said: 'The car alarm went off in the early hours of the morning so I went out and saw there was no-one around and clicked it off and went back to bed.

'I got up about an hour later for work and when I went out to the car I found everything burnt out.

'The cigarette had been charging in the front point and it's as if it went off like a firework. Even the front visors are burnt through.

'I can't believe what happened. When I told my partner she was shocked. What if it was in the house charging and had gone off inside?

The firm's website warns users not to leave the cigarettes unattended as they charge up, which can take around four hours.

A spokesman for Vapouriz, which offers advice on charging the devices on its website, said: 'Chris Thomas has not contacted us with regards to any complaint, and actually purchased ‘e-liquid’, which in its diluted form is not flammable, from us only four days ago.

'Mr Thomas, having used three different brands of e-cigarettes over a four-month period, has allegedly had each one ‘blow up’ – this leads me to think that he may be using wrong or unsuitable chargers.'
The spokesman said: 'We do warn users not to leave the cigarettes unattended as they charge up, so this does not mean you should leave them in your car overnight.'

As e-cigarettes have grown in popularity there have been an increasing number of incidents concerning their safety.

A three-year-old boy in America suffered burns when his mother's e-cigarette exploded while charging last week.

Khonor Barlow was burnt after his mother's White Rhino device bounced off her car's ceiling and onto the boy as he sat in a car seat in the back as they drove in their hometown of Mount Pleasant, Utah.

On the opposite spectrum of choosing an e-cig brand, there's now 24K Gold wrapping papers for the 'high-roller's" who can afford them. Although, I would think, consuming gold in any form would be very lethal and probably on par, with the devestating effects of monatomic gold?

Would you smoke a cigarette made of 24K Gold?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2439011/Would-smoke-cigarette-24K-GOLD-The-65-rolling-papers-hot-new-thing-smokers-money-burn.html

At $65 for a 12-pack, Shine Papers, which are made from edible 24Karat gold leaf, are the latest trend among smokers with a lot of money to burn.

The potential health risks of inhaling gold particles are yet to be determined, but it hasn't stopped the hip-hop world from using Shine Papers as a status symbol.

According to the company's website, Shine Papers - which are produced overseas - are intended to be smoked as cigars or with 'legal herbal blends.'

But the references to 'blazing up' and 'gold joints' on its website suggest otherwise, as do photos on the company Facebook page that show the papers alongside bags of what appears to be marijuana.

Shine Papers have proved a hit particularly in the music and hip-hop community, where the golden cigarettes are seen as a status symbol.

I'll soon be Vaping! My battery is charging on my new e-cig. Too funny. Ok, so I ordered a e-cig off the internet, like the one that some of the customers use who come into the store I work at. It's a Joyetech eGo-CTwist. You fill it with the nic liquid, charge the battery and away you go. It came with extra parts, and a second battery. I opted for the 1000 Mah battery, because it's suppose to give you more vapor. Most of them come with the 650 Mah battery. I purchased it at myfreedomsmokes dot com. The also sell a nice lanyard that just hooks onto your e-cig, so you don't have to leave it laying around or in a pocket holder.

USA sites to purchase myfreedomsmokes dot com, TheDigitalCig dot com, VaporKings dot com, and JohnsonCreekSmokeJuice dot com.

Canada sites NicFitNation dot com, CapitalNicFit dot com, and CEVstore dot com.

I found an online forum for those wishing to talk to others using the e-cigs, and vapor cigs.

I found a page on how to make your own juice, (cigarette vapor liquid).

RECIPE

http://electroniccigarettetalk.com/5-steps-electronic-cigarette-vapor-liquid/

A video on how to fill your vapor e-cig. I had no idea, so I needed help with this. There are many video's on you-tube on how to fill and use different units, depending on which type you decide to buy. This video if for the type I purchased, "eGo Clearomizer Cartomizer". That's a mouthfull of a name, but it appears from other video's I watched that it's a real easy one to fill up.

To make your own juice you have to decide on whether to use propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). I think if I were to make my own I'd go with the vegetable glycerin. So you would need Vegetable Glycerin, Nic juice that's 98-99% nicotine, (you can buy the nic juice by the liter, the VG, and supplies at MyFreedomsmokes dot com, & other places too I'm sure), and you'll need distilled water. The upfront costs for the liters of Glycerin and Nic Juice are a bit much, but imagine how much of vapor juice you could make? I had to purchase a tiny 15 ml bottle premixed for $9.99 for mine just to start with.

When making your own juice... I've been warned about the NIC JUICE. You want to use great care not to get any of it on you! Use rubber gloves and do not exceed the amount of juice recommended in the recipe.

I'll let you know how I make out with mine. I really would like a be able to not "bother" people so much with my smoke, and like I mentioned before cleaning my own windows has been a pain in the bumper now that I'm getting older.

Geraldo Rivera did a show on Vapor pens, (e-vapor cigs), last night. Of course the conversation centered around it's uses for medical marijuana. I call him the drama-king. I just hope that when people see you using one now, they don't immediately associate it with Cannabis smoking. I'm sure they'll find a way to make something good turn into something bad. never fails.

My Vapor cig is working out great for me. Mine looks like the ones in the video with the tank. I've cut back 50% on regular tobacco already, and went 5 hours at work the other night just using the vapor. I had my vapor pen turned up a little too high, and purchased juice with a little too much nicotine, so I had to adjust that back down to my normal level.

I kept getting caught, with my e-cig running out of juice while out and about. So, I picked up a second and a third. Now, when one runs out, there are two backups. If one is still charging, there are usually two backups at hand.

My battery ran out at work tonight, and the #2 battery was home. I had to smoke normal cigs. It won't happen again. ;) I can't believe I wanted and missed the vapor cig so much. Missed the taste, the ease of just taking a puff on it without having to hover around the ashtray. I like to keep moving and stay busy. I never thought I would ever say I missed it. Thought the thing would be a pain, and I'd be craving my cigs, but I don't. very strange after 34 years of smoking. It's all good though, as long as they don't regulate or outlaw them or something.

A few days ago I got an e-cig - aka 'vape'. I started with one of those little models that look about the same size as a regular cig, then after using that a day or so I went out and got a slightly larger model with a 'tank' to put my own liquid in.

I typically smoke anywhere from 8 to 15 strong cigs every day. To do that I have to leave the window open and blow smoke out the window via a fan because I can't smoke in the house. This presents a problem in the winter - my fingers get pretty cold and after a while I have to go warm up my hand so I can use the mouse. Lol. I'd rather not be getting up from the desk one or twice an hour to go have a cig outside. So I decided to try the e-cigs to see if that might work to fill some gaps.

It works. For the past 2 days I've smoked only 2 and half cigs total, the rest of the time I've used the e-cig and it works to deliver the nicotine just fine. Plus, while I didn't think that I'd like having flavors, that turns out to be a very nice benefit so far. I can get liquids with regular tobacco flavors, and I can also get all sorts of bizarre stuff like coffee banana, orange creme, death by chocolate, vanilla, etc etc etc

Anyway, here's what I learned about this technology so far:

e-Cigs

- e-cigs are basically glorified vaporizers. They consists of a tip, a tank, and battery. Sometimes the tip and tank are combined into one tiny unit so you wind up with 2 parts. Otherwise you have at least 3 parts.

- The so-called disposable kind of e-cigs can be reused. The supposed disposable notion is marketing crap to get people to keep buying new cartridges. Fact of the matter is that you can refill the cartridges with any kind of e-liquid you prefer. Just put a few drops in the end of it, let it stand there for a 10 to 15 mins, and you're good to go. The 'tips' are sometimes referred to as cartridges or cartomizers. Refilling cartomizers is easiest with a little bottle that has a needle tip that fits into the cartomizer's hole - available cheap at many e-cig shops.

- The battery storage of 'disposable' models typically hovers around 280mAh, not much overall.

- The reusable / refillable models with 'tanks' to pour in your own liquid are pretty good if you smoke a lot. The tanks are referred to as clearomizers because they typically have an entirely clear tank well or at least a portion of it is clear so you can see how much liquid is remaining.

- Most of the popular reusable models follow the 'eGo' design where the components are all fitted together using what is called 510 threads. So parts are usually interchangeable.

- Batteries can range from 650mAh up to around 2K mAh or more. Standard batteries are regulated to about 3.3v, some batteries have changeable voltage levels.

- Clearomizers are where the action takes place. The liquid is drawn into a tube via wicks where the current heats it up and turns it into vapor.

- Clearomoziers come in different ohm ratings. So based on standard electrical characteristics, when the ohms are combined with the various battery voltages you wind up with some level of current based on Ohm's Law. The more current, the quicker things heat up, and sometimes this equates to more vapor.

- Clearomizers can be either metal, plastic, glass, or a combination. The most common is the cheap plastic - which may leach chems depending on your liquid. Fruit flavors will leach chems out of the plastic eventually. If you want glass, check out Kanger's Pro Tech 2 or SmokTech's models - and don't be fooled by very similar very cheap imitations... if you want glass make sure it's glass.

- Same for batteries. There are loads of them out there. Beware of super cheap stuff, lithium ion batts can in fact overheat and hurt ya if they aren't made really good. Consider name brands and again don't fall for cheap imitations.

e-Liquids( aka e-Juice ) :

- liquids are made from either polypropylene gycol ( PG, also used in various mechanical applications as anti-freeze ), vegetable glycerine ( VG ), or both

- most off the shelf liquids are typically a mix of PG / VG, roughy 5% to 15% water, and 1% or more of flavoring. Nictone levels vary from 5mg up to 24mg or thereabouts, and you can pick the nic level you want usually when buying. For comparison, a typical American Spirit ( maroon pack ) has about 1.2mg per cig -- but I have not yet figured out how to derive how much nicotine is in a typical puff on a vape with something like 12mg nic liquid in it.

- VG and water are what creates the steam seen with some liquids. And VG is where the sweetness comes from in the vapor.

- PG does not create much of any steam, but produces what the vape aficionados refer to as 'throat hit' which is the punch that whacks the back of your throat when you inhale. Given that PG is used as anti-freeze, I'm not inclined to touch it with a 100 foot pole. Incidentally, I started with PG / VG mixed liquids. Those sort of hurt my throat and left my mouth dry. Switched to 100% VG and those aspects are now gone. 100% VG is a much smoother, has more moisture, and tastes better.

- There are a few companies that make organic liquids, and fortunately they also make 100% VG mixes - no PG. We've tried several flavors and they are typically really good stuff.

- 2 sites where you can find organic liquids are Virgin Vapors dot com ( their Coffee Monkey is spectacular! ), and Orb Vapors dot com. Both sites will let you buy small samples and / or make your own mix from available flavors. And Orb will ship overseas from the USA for $9 USD. Not sure what intl shipping price Virgin Vapors might have, but I did see ukecigstore dot com in the UK that sells their mixes.

- If you're inclined to make your own liquid, check out Vaping Zone - they sell bulk VG with nicotine already added at reduced rates. For example, you could buy 4 litres of VG liquid that has 100mg concentration of nicotine for roughly $400. You cut that down the 10 or 12mg ( typically medium level nicotine for a liquid ) and you wind up with 8 to 10 litres. How many years would that last you given that it's super hard to smoke even 0.5ml per day ? Quite a few I'd guess. Compare that to about $8 to $12 for a 10ml to 15ml bottle and you see just how extreme the price markup on e-liquid really is, and just how much money you can save in the long run - not to mention secure a way to get access to nicotine. :cool2: And of course you can find plenty of organic pure extracts on the net to make flavors if you want -- even various types of tobacco flavors.

That's about all I know about this tech so far. Very interesting way to get nicotine into the system. If you want a quick overview from another perspective check out these 2 pages:

Great info m ! Been searching around trying to find a bit lower nicotine content that the vape liquid I've already purchased. I might end up having to make my own.

I've been rolling natural tobacco cigarettes everyday for the past few years for my husband and myself. He smokes a lot, and it get's a bit nuts sitting there rolling everyday. I try to find a good radio show or something to do while I'm rolling. Reading and rolling is a little difficult, I have keep to keep shaking the tobacco messy off the book. ;)

So...our anniversary is in a few days and guess what's coming in the mail for him? Ah, if he really doesn't like the the vapor e-cig, then I'll have another spare. He hasn't showed any real interest in it yet. He hasn't said anything bad about it either...Thinking if he had his own to try he just might like it.

My brother wants to try it too. He's concerned the fluid might contain something that could effect his diabetes. I don't think it will, but maybe the fruit flavors have some additional additives. I referred him to the e-cig forum, so he could ask more questions about that.

Look around the net for a 'Topomatic' rolling machine. Using one of those, you can roll an entire pack in about 5 mins flat. If you decide to get one, the black models seem better than the newer chrome. We had both, the chrome one broke already - didn't even last a year. The black one is nearly 3 years old and going strong.

These things are basically tobacco tube stuffers. So you can either buy tubes or make your own tubes with any rolling paper you like. Just find a pen about the same diameter as a cig ( old fashioned Bic pens work ) and roll the papers around that first to make the tubes, then stuff the tubes with tobacco on the machine.

Now you've got interested in these e-cigs, m. I've stayed away from them because I didn't trust the polypropylene glycol, but if I can get organic vegetable glycerine, I might just try it. It'll come in handy on long flights and airport waits like I have coming up in a few weeks. Plus I can jack up the amount of nicotine I get from each cigarette which is always a plus for me. Thanks for the in-depth review.

I was so confused at first about VG or PG vapor fluid. Like what are they talking about? VG is for vegetable glycerin and PG is the polypropylene glycol. I opted for VG fluid. Sounds much healthier, and so far it's working out just fine for me.

I have a "Powermatic II" electric rolling machine. It's really fast, and easy. Just if you're out of electric...that might be a problem. I keep a small "tops" cig-roller and a pipe around just for the occasional outage. My son bought me one a few years ago. Had different "Topomatic" models before that. I tend to get impatient and bend parts on those. If the tobacco is too damp, or if it's too fine, it jams on me. I haven't had those problems with the electric rolling machine. It has the power! :D

Now we need someone to invent a solar charger for the Batteries that go with the Vapor e-cigs. I'm always looking for solar chargers for everything. One good comet, and out goes the lights. ;-) Plus I'm in a rural location, and every wind or ice storm we have my power goes out for a few hours, sometimes a few days.

I've recently had a weird experience with the e-cig. About 10 days ago, I just happened to be walking past a local shop that said something like "The Vape Shop" in the window and went in to see if they sold the e-juice with nicotine (apparently you can't buy e-juice with nicotine in Canada). Sure enough, they had e-juice with nicotine. When I asked him how he could sell e-juice with nicotine when it was supposedly illegal to sell in Canada, he replied that he had a "good lawyer". Anyway, I purchased one with some tobacco flavored 18 mil nicotine e-juice.

It just so happened that I was out of natural tobacco (I was waiting for another shipment) so I vaped the e-cig for the next 4 or 5 days. I liked it. I could "smoke" in the house and I could even smoke in the car with the window closed while driving with my wife (she doesn't smoke and it bothers her). I also found it quite inexpensive, at least compared to buying commercial cigarettes.

About 4 or 5 days later, something strange happened. I wasn't physically feeling as well as I normally do, and I was getting hungry and even starting to feel a little faint and low on energy. This is something that I hadn't felt for at least 18 months, about when I started the keto diet. I really felt like I was out of ketosis. I hadn't changed anything in my diet what so ever (very little carb intake) so I thought it may have something to do with the e-juice and decided to research it a bit (should of done that before trying it )

From what I understand, the e-juice that I was vaping was a mixture of PG and VG (don't know the percentages). As mentioned by M and others in this thread, the PG is probably not a good thing. But what I found interesting is that the vegetable glycerin is actually labeled as a carbohydrate by the FDA. One site said that yes it is a carbohydrate but the levels are so small that it shouldn't affect anyone that had, say, diabetes. However, after browsing through a few forums on the topic of e-cigs, there were two reports of diabetics that claimed that their blood sugar levels spiked after vaping e-juice.

I then stopped using the e-cig, and within a couple of days, I was back to normal. And so I don't know... Is it possible that I was knocked out of ketosis because of vaping vegetable glycerin? I guess what I could do is try it again and see what happens...

Hmm. Not sure, Stoneboss. I guess if you "smoke" enough of the glycerine, it could theoretically knock you out of ketosis because it would be entering your blood steam? Well, I'm interested in any more information about the possibility. But for me it would be used only during long flights and the like so if the possibility exists of being knocked out of ketosis, I wouldn't be too worried in my case, as I would immediately start smoking tobacco as soon as I could.

So, here is my 2 week electronic cigarette experiment.

I started with a small cigarette looking one, I liked it but noticed it made my throat hurt some, which I thought was due to the PG, one of the days of smoking clove flavored(high nicotine strength) my front teeth felt numb. I thought it was probably the clove causing the numb feeling (had a dream that night all my teeth were falling out :scared:).

The next week got a bigger battery e-cig, and tried the Vigin Vapor organic flavors with VG to see if it was easier on my throat then the PG. It was, and I REALLY liked it. I really went bananas over the Coffee Monkey(coffee banana - medium nicotine strength). I did that pretty heavily over two days, and again I was having some numbness in my front teeth and in my sinuses. Also, had a morning were I woke up with a bad sinus headache. Thought that it was the nicotine causing the numbness, and vaping way to much, so I backed off. Even vaping very infrequently I had numbness.

I ordered 0 nicotine to cut down the medium strength, thinking it was too high of nicotine for me. I usually only smoke about 6 cigarettes a day on average, so I thought I was over dosing a bit. Today, I received and tried the 0 nicotine by itself, and I am very disappointed to report that it is definitely PG and VG that cause the numbness. Trying to do a little research on it doesn't bring up much, but I did find a little about vegetable glycerin.

"But now doctors have raised concerns about e-cigarette vapor separate from those about nicotine. A 42-year-old woman who had used e-cigarettes for seven months experienced shortness of breath, cough, and fever over the same period. The diagnosis was lipoid pneumonia—a chronic inflammation caused by fatty substances (lipids) in the lungs—due to e-cigarette use. The specific cause was repeated exposure to glycerin-based oils found in e-cigarette nicotine vapor. The patient’s symptoms improved after she stopped using e-cigarettes.1"

Glycerin Allergy Syptoms:

Upon exposure or use, glycerin allergy skin symptoms include dermatitis which can cause itching, burning and redness of skin, dizziness, nausea, and swelling

Glycerin enema allergy will show anal irritation, rectal blooding, diarrhea, stomach cramps

Glycerin spray allergy will show numbness of cheeks, tongue, or mouth

Patient with glycerin suppositories allergy suffer with anal irritation, burning sensation, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and stomach cramps.

Severe allergy symptoms are rashes, hives, breathing difficulty, tightness of the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, and rectal bleeding.

I am definitely sensitive to the glycerine, and I am really disappointed, because I really liked it :(. It really is one of those "if it sounds too good too be true, it probably is".
