Since this article from about a week ago numerous reports are circulating amoung the UK's birding fraternity of dead, dying and distressed birds, as well as, species turning up at garden feeders that normally don't visit them ( things like woodcock and water rail - completely out of their normal habitats).
The extreme cold weather has also hit birds in other parts of the northern hemisphere. In mainland europe, 50% of kingfishers have been killed off in Holland -
