"Empire of illusion" by Chris Hedges

The Living Force
I recently finished reading "Empire of illusion" by Chris Hedges.

The book is divised in five main themed chapters, dissecting the Illusion of literacy, love, wisdom, happiness and America.

It casts a bleak picture of modern society and its pursuit of keeping the illusion running at all costs.
From TV shows, pornography and politics, nothing is left unscathed and Chris Hedges does not mince his words so it's not for the faint hearted.

His book is only concerned with the US but anyone can see the same reflection in many countries.

I don't know if he is aware of psychopathy as the root for such decay of society but he does quote Robert Hare and his psychopath checklist that can be applied for corporations but he does not point out to individuals.
So i don't know if he knows more about psychopathy, and I would be surprised if he did not, and chose willingly to be hazy on this subject.

It seems that for him, there is no escape from a descent into hell because we've gone too far, to conclude the book, he ends on a slight positive note, even if societies become monsters, there will still be love and acts of kindness and that can never be taken away from humanity.

I thought it was a great read, not unlike The shock Doctrine in some respect, for it's capacity to shake you up and realize that something is terribly wrong (especially if you thought everything was fine).
It does not offer a solution, just a stark reality check.
