A number of cars parked in the Brussels municipality of Saint Gilles went ablaze late on Wednesday, with footage uploaded on social media showing large fire and sounds of explosions. The cause of the fire has not been immediately clear.

Images coming from Brussels showed thick smoke rising from blazing cars.

The fire has since been successfully put out.

Local authorities said that there was criminal intent behind the car fires, but added that a terrorist threat has been ruled out. Eight cars were affected and no injuries reported.

An early morning explosion at a home in Vallecito sent three people to the hospital and triggered an investigation that filled Vallecito Bypass Road with emergency vehicles and closed the street to traffic Tuesday.

Calaveras County Sheriff Sgt. Anthony Eberhardt said “there was an unknown type of explosion” at 4:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Vallecito Bypass Road, not far off of Highway 4. “We are not quite sure what happened,” Eberhardt said.

Three injured people were taken to Mark Twain Medical Center for treatment and two of the three were later flown by helicopter for treatment at other hospitals, Eberhardt said.

Investigators continued to work at the scene late Tuesday more than 12 hours after the explosion.

A check of Sheriff’s Office arrest and dispatch records reveals that deputies have been called to a home in the 3300 block of Vallecito Bypass Road a number of times over the past decade. One of the most recent was on June 11 when a 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of felony child cruelty and a 53-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of various traffic and drug offenses.

Eberhardt declined to discuss the history of the house or to say whether it is linked with the explosion.
