Face covering
Disclaimer: This face covering will not keep viruses and bacteria from your face and it may potentially not be healthy to wear it longer than a very short time.
Material
- cotton yarn (e.g. DK)
- 3,5 mm / US 4 circular needles (needles fitting to your yarn)
- thinner double pointed needle
- 4 stitch markers
- tapestry needle for weaving in ends and putting in elastic
- ca. 2 x 20cm / 2 x 8" elastic cord , elastic band
Abbreviations:
k: knit
kfb: knit in the front and then in the back of the same stitch
Instruction
- Cast on 2x 3 stitches with Judy's Magic Cast On (Video: _
)
- Knit 10 rounds of I-Cord (Video: _i-cord Cast On – SOSU)
- Place Marker
- Go with a thinner needle within the I-Cord tube and pick up and knit 10 stitches
- Place Marker
- Hold the 3 stitches from the other end of the I-Cord in a way that purl stitches are up and slip them with yarn in front (see I-Cord video). You will have 16 stitches on your needle.
Row 1 (right side): K3, slip marker, kfb, knit to the last 4 stitches, kfb, slip marker, slip 3 stitches purlwise with yarn in front (18 stitches)
Row 2 (wrong side): K3, slip marker, kfb, K1, kfb, place marker, K6, place marker, kfb, K1, kfb, slip marker, slip 3 stitches purlwise with yarn in front.
Row 3 (right side): K3, slip marker, kfb, knit to the last 4 stitches, kfb, slip marker, slip 3 stitches purlwise with yarn in front.
Row 4 (wrong side): K3, slip marker, kfb, knit to 1 stitch before marker, kfb, slip marker, K6, slip marker, kfb, knit to 1 stitch before marker, kfb, slip marker, slip 3 stitches purlwise with yarn in front.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have worked about 2 fingers broad below the I-Cord (ca. 1 'nose' long, 4-5 garter ribs, 8-10 rows).
Then repeat row 3 until the I-cord is about 1 face width long; the ends are still a bit before the ears (ca. 5 garter ribs, ca. 10 rows).
Remove the 2 middle stitch markers when working the next row.
Then knit this row until your chin is not visible when you hold the face covering before your face (ca. 5 garter ribs, ca. 10 rows) or until desired height:
K3, slip marker, knit to the last 4 stitches, slip marker, slip 3 stitches purlwise with yarn in front.
Bind off and weave in ends.
Thread the elastic cord into your tapestry needle and pull it through the I-Cords on the side of the face covering. Make a knot into your elasticated cord.
Enjoy wearing it.
