Today on the Health and Wellness show we'll be covering the topic of fasting. Is fasting just a religious ritual or does it have beneficial effects on the body? Can you gain longevity, improve your immune system, and even supercharge your brain by fasting? We'll discuss the issue and review research around the subject. As always Zoya will be joining us with the Pet Health Segment where the topic will be...leeches!

Tune into the Health and Wellness show weekly on Fridays at 10am EST and 4pm CET on the SOTT Radio Network!

I missed the show but really looking forward for listening to it later.

I love a good fast, always feel so much better for it!

I also missed the show. I've always been a little apprehensive of fasting. I am very small and have a high metabolism. In the past, due to illness, I have had to fast and I always felt horrible! Of course, I was also sick.
I will, however, check out the show with an open mind. I know that there is at least one thread on the topic here on the forum I can check out also.
Thanks for the link!

Listened to the show while cooking dinner. Very inspiring as I have just started keto again. Much needed reminders and boost to get me through the first few hard days.

My last fast was about a month ago for 4 days. The first day was hard and the following were so easy I could have kept going for weeks but decided not to as I was concerned that my already sluggish digestion would grind to a halt and be hard to reboot... I also spent a lot of time googling paleo recipes and was driving myself a bit mad about it. Avoiding thinking about food and staying out of the kitchen would be better but I have a family to feed so the added challenge of them eating always makes things hard (right now those here are eating waffles with maple syrup and icecream, I'm in another room but I can smell it and the challenge is not to be annoyed that they want to eat that kind of food)

The bit I found most interesting was that taking vitamins while fasting can slow down or impede the effects of the fast by not allowing enough oxidative stress. I wasn't sure about that, I only took magnesium and potassium and water the whole 4 days. Next time I'll take nothing.

I also like the warrior diet mentioned in the show where a person only eats one decent sized meal a day. When I'm feeling the best is when I'm doing this approach to eating without sneaking in anything else even if I get a little hungry. Dinner at 6 and nothing else but water and tea til the next day's dinner.

Just what I needed tonight as I've decided I need to refine my keto eating to just animal fat, bone broth and grass fed meat with a bit of coconut oil and my homemade milk in teas (and coconut creamed flesh so I don't cry too much about having nothing slightly sweet to taste) I'm limiting it so I can heal my gut, recently I've struggled with butter and eggs so it's time for some discipline.

Much appreciation for the show. ☮☯

Interesting. There is a rather extreme diet out there using HCG, very effective for weight loss. The mastermind behind it warns not to use vitamins because body fat is such a great store of nutrition factors that they are not needed at all.

Also interesting in the show was the mention of how/why no one seemed to lose weight during Ramadan. My friends doing the fast are indeed gaining weight and suffering weakness/hunger at the same time.

Yes thanks for another great show guys! Fascinating as always.

I have a friend who is fasting for Ramadan and we met up a day before she begun her fast. She is diabetic and so struggles with sugar highs and lows on a daily basis. She asked me at 16:00 when I ate last and I said oh yesterday noon and she was quite surprised. I was busy running around from morning until then and that's when we decided to eat. I do notice that being keto and in a fasted state, I do feel clear headed and I am able to focus more.

Every now and again, I tell my friend to not be afraid of the fat and perhaps add some more to her diet. I do send articles from SOTT so she gets a better informed article on why fat is our best friend.

Ditto. Great information. It seems that eating less and eating right continues have so many dividends. The intestinal track really does communicate with mind and visa versa.

I get so much done and stay focused maintaining a fuel in to an energy out ratio, depending on the days needs.

So thanks to everyone that have done the research, provided tips to keep me thinking, and investigating the right chemical balance for my needs.

Bravo :perfect: :perfect:
