Фильмы Майка Кэйхилла / Mike Cahill's movies

The Force is Strong With This One

Yesterday i've watched two the only known for me Mike Cahill's movies. I was impressed... Especially by the last one named "I origins". On my mind, one of the first roles actresses, girl Sophie - she is a woman who knows (knews) about our life something more than other people. And somehow she knews about things in past and in the feature... From her first dialogue with head role acter names Iehn i've noticed that she lives through all her hole lifes by that moment, it looks like perception of time that Cas tells about many times. I think that she understands, that Iehn will not be with her forever, but she wants to change his mind about world around him, she tells him that he will see and he will now...

First movie "Another Earth" very imprssive too, but i think, i'm not quitly understand it... May be it's about crossing of universes or dimensions. Or it simply has no any sense.... Can anyone tell me, what i have missed?

I liked "Another Earth" so I decided to watch "I Origins" tonight and I thank you so much for pointing it out to me!

Mike Cahill does bring up a lot of thought provoking work!

Spoiler alerts below for both Another Earth and I Origins.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I understand of Another Earth is that another earth becomes visible to ours, just like ours, with similar conditions.
The main character messed up someone's life on this planet after a party while distracted by Earth 2. Her life has never been the same since.
She wins the essay contest to go visit this planet.
Now what happens at the end is not solid. So she goes, and her from Earth 2 turns up here!

Your idea on crossing universes sounds interesting, like the many worlds theory of parallel universes.
How else the same looking person can show up from the other planet... and who knows if she had to write an essay to win this trip. Who knows her past, maybe the same thing happened to her? In that case, does that mean every universe or dimension runs the same exact thing? (idea of intelligent design- as true randomness would not allow coming up with the same exact situation to create the same exact person twice!)

I Origins was very thought provoking!

So they were showing how every iris pattern is different, there are no duplicates.
However during the movie there are some interesting things that pop up, where there are duplicates found in the iris scan database.
One is the main character's son, who seems to have reactions to images from his past life in a Yale test which was hidden as an autism test.
This leads him and his wife to look at other eyes for duplicate records. They find one, his past love - who died in an elevator accident in front of his eyes.

She believed in spiritual things. He and his wife don't... they are ardent atheists.

So with a lot of struggle he decides to go to India and find out if this girl would pass tests to show that she has this memory of her past life, using a similar test that was done on his son. It turns out, in the testing, she got slightly above average. It wasn't conclusive. But, as he walks her to the elevator and the doors open, she starts crying and panicking from the elevator! It seems like to him, that was all the proof he needed.... despite him being atheist, this challenged his beliefs!

The idea that the Iris, created by the DNA, perhaps storing information in some way that it is universal, is what the book "The 5th Option: Origin of Life" by Bryant Shiller speaks about. I haven't finished the book yet though.

A nice extra ending:

Near the end of the credits there is the Yale woman running scans of famous people who died.
Some of them have duplicate records (which means possible reincarnation by now) and some don't
(which could mean no records exist- as not everyone is scanned, OR 2- perhaps they just didn't reincarnate anymore- Like Caesar said in the C's session a few months ago, he wasn't coming back!, OR 3- they never had a soul- OP?)

What I could write down, there were a few other pictures I couldn't identify.
If nothing mentioned, it means the computer found a duplicate record.

JFK
Elvis Presley
John Lennon - No records found
MLK
Saddam - No records found
Che Guevara
Einstein
Malcolm X
Gandhi - No records found (5th density I think the C's said once?)
Tesla- No records found
Jackie Kennedy
Hitler- No records found (op/psychopath? or 4d STS?)
Thatcher- No records found (op/psychopath?)
Lincoln
Mandela
