Could a Finnish-speaking member have a go at translating this? It might be a good one for Sott to have.

Apparently it's a fireball sighting over southern Finland from a couple of days ago! I was looking for something in English about it online but no luck so far. I did however find this Youtube video of a fireball over Finland in mid-January:

Looks like we had the same idea. :) Tried looking for the same article in English but no luck at all. Hopefully a Finnish speaking member might be able to find something in English.

I'll try to find time to translate this between rehearsals today. The article isn't that long so it should be possible. Maybe you guys can brush up the English afterwards?

oops, this is 2007 article, I posted too fast while multitasking at work
But it might be interetsing for some people.

Sure, doesn't need to be perfect. Translate it as you see it, then we can brush it up. Thanks Aragorn!

Okay, here goes. I did this in a bit of a hurry, hope you can comprehend what it says. If something is unclear just ask and I'll check in later today.

[headline]: Spacerock fell by the side of the Riihimäki-Lahti track (train) – who will find it?

[text under picture]: The fireball of Kärkölä was captured by several meteorite seeking cameras.

The bright shooting star that was seen on the sky of Southern Finland on Friday 19. of February at 00.05 AM could have dropped a 100gram meteorite in Kärkölä, in Southern-Häme.

The fireball that was seen on the night leading to Friday(?) on the sky of Southern-Finland could have dropped a spacerock by the side of the Riihimäki-Lahti (train)track. The fireball was seen at least in Kuru and it was captured by six meteorite observing cameras.

The bright part of the trail in the sky has been determined at the accuracy of 100meters based on the videofootage of the fireball .

The mathematician and meteor researcher Esko Lyytinen estimates, that the fireball dropped a rather small meteorite, weighing maybe ca 100grams.

The likely/probable crash site (?) is somewhere in the region of Lappila, near the train track leading from Riihimäki to Lahti.

It's unlikely for someone to find the spacerock in the snowy terrain.

Only 13 meteorites has been found in Finland so far. The most recent incident is the meteorite of Haverö almost 40 years ago, that fell through a fisherman's hut in the year of 1971.

Looks good to me!
My Finnish comprehension is not so good as yours though because I moved to this country as an adult.

Oh just about the article itself

Uh... like it is going to be easier to find the rock in the heat of summer? :D
(someone commented something to that effect that below the article)

I sent it on to the Sott team, thanks Aragorn!
