Fitness/workout?

I just wanted to share my workout experiences.

After some trial and error, watching some videos from the HIT camp and working with a very good Pilates trainer about 2 years ago for about 6 months, this is now our routine that works very well for both me and my wife:
  • Resistance training: once a week (sometimes every 2 weeks if we don't have the time), consisting of a workout of every "big" muscle group (legs, various back parts, arms) in the gym. We do just one set with app. 15-25 repetitions, where for the last reps we try to really push hard "as if our life depended on it".
  • Pilates training: 5-7 times a week every morning before EE, for about 15-30 minutes. We use a youtube Pilates channel and try to not repeat the same set of exercises for two days in a row, since I found that this overwhelms my body and the exercised body parts may start hurting. If we don't have time/access to the video channel, we do an "extended warmup", consisting of a few basic pilates exercises (bridging etc.) I also found that the breathing techniques you learn in Pilates are very useful in all situations where you have to mobilize some physical energy and can be used in resistance training as well as in daily life.
For now, this seems to be the optimal workout for me - just the Pilates or just the resistance training wouldn't do it for me, it's the combination that works. In the past I had so many problems with posture, and felt very weak and "unbalanced", which got so much better now with this routine.

We also found that going for a walk (1-2 hours) at least once a week can do wonders to our clarity of mind and general well-being.

Thank you all for the great information especially about resistance training, I wouldn't have thought about that at all since the "gym and bodybuilding world" seems so off-putting, not to mention the disinformation that is out there.
