Full explanation of the Wim Hof Method (animated video)

WH’s daughter is saying her dad is being cancelled, it does look like orchestrated effort

His son also said something along the same lines. As much as Wim may be a flawed man like any of us, his intent has never seemed anything but pure, and this certainly looks like a coordinated hit job.

What he has achieved is so astounding that I don't think people can even grasp the significance of it. Like it doesn't even compute, so it kind of gets glossed over.

Most importantly, he's shown that he's not just a genetic fluke. He has trained plenty of normal people how to consciously regulate autonomic processes in ways that were considered impossible, or at least considered to be solely the domain of shaolin monks with decades of training.

His motto is he wants everyone to be strong, healthy and happy, which is clearly opposed to PtB plans for us.

Yeah that is my impression too.
He has changed my life profoundly.

Do you practice his breathing exercises daily? - if so I wanted to compare notes about something.

I was doing for a time yes. Then it became more of an occasional thing.

I recently started the practice more seriously again, as it's now getting cold enough here to combine with cold showers/dips.

Sometimes I just do a quick couple cycles of breathing. Mostly I do a full 10 minutes, 3 rounds of 30-40 breaths. I have done much longer sessions occasionally as well.

Did you notice that your ability for breath holds decreased over time?

I ve been doing breath work daily for over a year now. In the beginning i would regularly feel the endorphin rush / psychedelic effects and was managing on average 3 min breath holds sometimes even up to 4.
However it has been few months now that breath retention has become a real struggle, I hardly manage 1 minute these days.
And the usual feel good effect has almost disappeared.
I feel like I regressed instead of progressing and I wonder why.
I still do feel energy boost afterwards and increased focus but nothing like it was in the beginning.
The cold plunges still have the same beneficial effect.

Big things that affect this are food, cardio wellness and general inflammation. To a lesser extent also caffeine.

First, it's best done on an empty stomach. Having a full stomach will always reduce my breath hold length by a good half.

Second, if I'm not getting regular exercise, results suffer greatly. At least walking 10k steps per day.

On inflammation, the breathwork is good to reset a discombobulated nervous system, but if there is chronic neuro inflammation from diet or other sources then things can get tricky. I've found in some cases it can actually increase anxiety or irritability, for instance. Too much caffeine also interferes.

The time of day also seems to matter, and something around intent that I can't quite define. Like are you doing it as a way to get a high or escape some bad feeling, or are you doing it to reconnect deeply into your body and take charge of your nervous system?

I think in some cases it is achieving a kind of chemical high, and any high wears off and stops working. Not just cheap highs, but even those attained through hard achievement etc.

For me there is rarely some great high, and if there is then I did too much, and I expect a crash. There's an art to it for sure, and there are probably some dangers too, keeping in mind the recent C's session. At the very least it can be releasing trauma too fast if done too much.

It's possible that you experienced such good initial results that you emotionally latched onto it, and it stopping working is a sign of over-reliance and a need to reassess and look into other avenues for a while.

For me, I stopped for a while because it kind of stopped working, and I got the sense that it was actually giving me anxiety. In that time off I stacked a truckload of other good habits, and have healed in other ways to some extent. Now when I do it, it's a great 10 minute reconnecting experience, and I finish it feeling refreshed and awakened.

Yes I always start with this intention.

Yeah I thought about this.

Well last summer I might have overdid it as I was doing it morning and evening. Although I always finish with some calming routine like this one

Yeah it is possible.
Thanks for your thoughts.

This may well be a hit-piece on Hof based on fictions, but I think it's worth parsing the Volkskrant piece to see what if any of it could be accurate.

The outside world knows Wim Hof as the eccentric Iceman. His family suffered domestic violence

Looking at some of the images in the article and their captions, and Sources at the end of the article, it seems it's not a fictitious story. FWIW.

Sources

For this story, de Volkskrant has spoken extensively a number of times with Hof’s son Noah, his ex-partner Caroline, and her daughter Nathalie. Caroline’s son Christiaan has confirmed the findings in this article in writing.

This newspaper is in possession of judicial verdicts, reports filed against Wim Hof, a report by the Child Welfare Council about Noah’s situation, the restraining order issued by the mayor of Amsterdam, medical files, and a report of the hearing at the magistrate’s court that was made on behalf of Caroline’s lawyer. We also inspected dozens of emails sent by Hof.

In addition, de Volkskrant has spoken with the lawyer and with a therapist of Caroline, with a neighbour who lived many years on the floor below the family, with two of Hof’s brothers, and two of his ex-girlfriends. We also have an email in our possession that was sent by the then partner of Hof’s brother. Two family members of Hof’s first wife in Spain have not responded to requests for contact. A week and a half prior to publication, the editors have requested an interview with Wim Hof in person. He has not accepted this invitation. He did, via his solicitor, answer 44 questions in writing. His oldest four children have also answered a number of questions via their solicitor.

but shouldn’t proper journalist also speak to his other children?
The last sentence in the Sources says they did ask other children (from previous Hof's marriage) and that those children answered journal's questions in writing via their solicitor or lawyer, if I understand that sentence right.
