While I was aware of the German sanctions agings Russia (at least partly), I didn't saw what exactly the effects were, but now it came right to our door and this is just mind boggling to witness the stupidity. It drives me to tell a little story about how the German (an European) government is in serving as a US puppet. This is just a local event but something like this now happens across eastern Germany to a lot of companies.
Since many years, a very good customer of us in eastern Germany who was a big company in constructing industrial tanks, cases, heat exchanger and all kinds of chemical reactors had a good amount of work and full order books. Through this company, my own company got an huge task that should last several years with the volume that goes into the millions. Unfortunately, this company had almost 60% contracts with the Russian oil industry. Through the imposed sanctions, since 4 weeks no order came through anymore and yesterday they had a works meeting where the parent company announced that at the 28th of January 2015 the company will be closed.
The mother company (from the netherlands) waited until the very last day before the contract deadlines went out before they made the decision public, what a pathetic behavior. The manager of this company called us (a reliable partner since 15 years) and told us the story and also said that our contract is at stake here. It seems that it will be gone and with it, a (very) huge portion of our expected turnover for the next five years.
That made me think a bit and led to some questions about other companies that are working in the same area with the same ties to Russia. It turned out that is not restricted to a few little undertakings. Since September the announced sanctions were restricted to technology that could be used in military undertakings and that the European Union are working on "more drastic sanctions that should be ready in October". Well, it seems that they put it into action without to make a big fuss out of it and expanded the restrictions into the oil- and heavy industry. During today, we heard from four companies that they are hit by this sanctions in the same way and many more share the same fate now according to the rumors received from those companies.
I guess in the next month there will be a silent extinction of special knowledge and traditional companies mostly in eastern Germany and I bet few will get the clue that here the roots of the "German High Tech" is going to die in some significant portions. For example, not many people know how to bend a steelplate that is 100mm thick and weld it together to form a huge high pressure reactor. Its a shame.
Oh well, how can someone be so stupid and impose such king of "sanctions"? Psychopaths always shoot themselves into the foot, don't they?
