If you want to hear many Gurdjieff related compositions and musical pieces, gurdjieff.nu is a good site to visit. I've found it very relaxing.

Hope this isn't against the forum rules, I mean the site is openly in the net and the music in the player has been available for quite some time.

I have this one on Gurdjieff on piano : _http://www.amazon.com/Sacred-Hymns-Keith-Jarrett/dp/B00000DTER

Thanks Smallwood and ivan. I'll listen when I have more time. Are these compositions written by Gurdjieff or inspired by his work?

Most of them are credited to Gurdjieff/de Hartman, even if performed by others. Hard to say which are merely influenced. I know Vassilis Tsabropoulos rearranged some of the pieces with Anja Lechner to give them a modern touch and their albums "Chants, Hymns and Dances" and "Melos" are quite approachable but I do like Kremski's gentler ambiance.

I haven't heard much of Keith Jarrett's stuff but it sounds interesting. I'll think about ordering that CD ivan mentioned when I next have business with Amazon.

Apparently, the background music to this footage is G. playing the harmonium.

More then relaxing I found that some of G’s music has put me into an inner state of ‘active ableness' that made it more possible for me to be focused and present to myself. Hard to explain though. I think a good way of visually describing this state is the look on 'G’s' face in this video 'In Search Of The Miraculous' which I think is very similar to the descriptions given Castaneda when he met Don Juan. If you watch it at around 5.0 min into the video you’ll see 'G' in a state of active awareness or perhaps, imo, another way of saying is maybe an “active readiness and ableness to receive."

But having said that the question is what will one choose do with/in such an ‘able’ state. Hypnotize someone? or relax and “bliss out”? or maybe let oneself go into a complete trance state and allow the critical faculties of the mind to remain passive? Or possibly be a higher quality ‘tuned receiver’ while at the same time always keeping active and intact the critical faculties of the mind while in such a state?

Here is what Wikipedia says for Keith Jarret for this particular work : "For many years he has been a follower of the teachings of metaphysician and mystic G. I. Gurdjieff. In 1980 he recorded an album of Gurdjieff's compositions, called Sacred Hymns of G. I. Gurdjieff."

(Can be found here _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Jarrett in the end)

PS: I can also suggest you the GURDJIEFF/de HARTMANN 3 cd piano music (for example _http://www.triangleeditions.com/)

Was looking for some reading music, and found this lovely piece interpreted by mr Jarrett, a de Hartmann composition which goes to a 'sacred movement' . One of the few i tried -'Reading of Sacred book' a procession where you don't look away from the 'book' no matter how deep you duck.

I was listening to a certain Davide Swarup, a hang musician which I find really inspiring and worth listening:
http://music.davideswarup.com/album/music-for-hang

And this is how I discovered Keith Jarrett.

This is the The Köln Concert Interpreted by Tomasz Trzciński, Blue Mountains, 2006.

Funny to discover his connection to Gurdjieff through the board!

It is beautiful and worth a share.
