Happy Birthday Ark!!

Thank you very very much for all these nice words. ;D
And happy it is. I am happily coming to the end with one project, dealing with the mathematical description of one strange phenomenon, and posted my simulation on Youtube. It is strange that no one has predicted such a strange behavior of a common object until it was observed by the Russians in cosmos in 1985. Russians were trying to keep its discovery secret (just in case), but probably without success. Till today textbooks ignore this phenomenon, though the advances in robotics and navigation of space vehicles prompt increasing interest in these kinds of phenomena.

So, my birthday was a happy day, and even happier with all your wonderful wishes!

Very interesting! Thank you for sharing. Here is explanation of this effect in English:

Funny enough, I felt and observed the effect quite a number of times at work, while throwing a soft face hammer into the air, for one round and catching it again for fun. At one point I tried forcibly to not get it spinning like that, by throwing it with as little spin as possible, without success. I Tried it several times and didn't succeed. After a couple of attempts I wondered why exactly it is behaving like it does. Interesting to see that there is still a mystery around the exact mechanics of it.

Thank you for posting the video, Altair, and for sharing your experience with the hammer, Pashalis. I was not really aware of this phenomenon before and found it educative.

I tried to replicate the phenomenon with my mobile phone and a necklace with a pendant, and I think I noticed these different kinds of spins. But eventually, with a hammer or something cross-like it could be best re-modeled or re-experienced, I guess.

It was really interesting to try it out.

Be careful though! If you are not experienced in using hammers and throwing stuff and catching it, you can seriously hurt yourself... Better to be on the safe side there and if needed use something that can not hurt you.

Thanks Ark for bringing this up and for the fascinating videos explaining this phenomenon Pashalis and Altair! I had never heard of or seen it, so it's really interesting to see.

Thank you for your concern, Pashalis. I shortly thought about experimenting with a light hammer but didn't go for it, because of inexperience in using it this way and thus hurting myself; so in the end it became just theorizing on my part. Sorry for being unclear.

If I do experiment, I am going to use something which I think I can handle :)

Happy B-day with a bit of delay! :)

Indeed, a belated Happy Birthday to you, Ark!

Till today textbooks ignore this phenomenon, though the advances in robotics and navigation of space vehicles prompt increasing interest in these kinds of phenomena.

Thanks for the videos, and now I will think of this where before I did not.

Happy Birthday Ark! Since it it 76 years today, one may think of the Greek astronomers and mathematicians who were interested in getting the calendar right. Like this all these years can be counted in terms of four 19 year long Metonic cycles, the same as one 76 years long Callipic Cycle. In other words 76 years is a real achievement.
