Happy birthday to Laura!

Thanks for all birthday wishes this year! As I announced on FB, I am now the proud (?) guardian of a pair of peacocks and a big new book: The Red Book by Carl Jung. Approaching Infinity and his crew sent the book, the kids here decided on the birds. Don't ask me why, but they figured since I liked peacocks that I should have real ones. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them...

I made a gluten free cake with dried pineapple, raisins and carrots in it. It was drowned in a lemon/tangerine pudding. We ate "JoeFish" and fried sweet potatoes and fresh spinach.

I did a little putzing and relaxing during the day, watched a few music videos on youtube, watched the guys splitting wood out back, and then, just before bed, Ark and I watched a NOVA special on reversing magnetic fields on our new flat screen TV in the bedroom that was the "big" present. (It's not that big but it is supposed to give off less evil waves... and the tv we have had in there for years now was a behemoth that took up a lot of space and winked even when it was turned off!) We moved the old one down to the gym to use to watch exercise/dance videos.

Now, it's morning on "the day after" and it's cold as the dickens still though the light dusting of snow from yesterday is mostly gone. I'm thinking about ice-ages and, frankly, I don't like cold weather and it is a grim prospect. But I have to finish the final parts of the comet series and talk about this so I might as well get on with it! We have a lot of work to do with FOTCM and EE in the coming year!

Feliz cumpleaños Laura y muchisimas gracias por todo el trabajo hecho...I write it in my own language because when you say something from the heart feel better and I really am very grateful to all that I learned from your books and reviews.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Happy Birthday Laura. Peacocks wow what a wonderful gift, looking forward to seeing some photos of your new friends.

Happy Birthday Laura (one day late),
I have lost track of the days as we are literally snowed in and cannot reach the paved road a mile away except by foot or tractor--that is my excuse and I'm sticking to it-- :D I am glad to hear you had an uneventful BD filled with the sharing of simple pleasures with loved ones--that is my definition of a good time these days anyways. Although, receiving peacocks as a gift is exciting. We had them at a farm where I kept my horse and I was able to observe them for several years.

They were kept confined to protect them from predators when they were small, and as adults roamed free and required little maintenance. They are essentially "fancy chickens" that will forage for food, bugs, TICKS! (yeah!), seeds, small creatures, etc. requiring only water and a little corn/poultry feed to bond them to your location and supplement their wild diet. They are hardy in bad weather, love to roost in tall trees, sometimes 30 to 40 feet high, to avoid predators at night and have a loud, hellish alert call to warn of danger--they are absolutely the best watch dogs ever--they see everything and learn who is supposed to be on the property and who is a stranger (even on a place where there are many regulars). They will cry out when unknown vehicles and people approach. The sound of this alert call has been compared to cats in heat or a screaming baby--it definitely gets the attention of everyone around and scares the bejesus out of intruders--friend or foe! In late summer they shed their tail feathers under where they roost and you can gather them with little trouble for decorative uses or sell them if you have several birds like they did on the farm. If you get some peahens you may be able to raise them and sell the young--they appeared to be able to raise young with little human intervention and here they sell for about $50 apiece. I would like to have some peacocks here on my farm but I have a bird dog with a strong hunting instinct and haven't wanted to risk it at this time.

Enjoy these lovely symbols of your radiance, and may the peace and joy of your Birthday extend throughout this new year.

Happy Happy Belated Birthday, Laura! :wizard: :flowers:

edit, are they real, living, breathing peacocks? :P

Happy Belated Birthday! :wizard:

I don't know what it is, but it seems like so very many people I know have Feb birthdays. Maybe it's just selective memory since my birthday happens to fall within this month too.

Hope you enjoy your presents! The Red Book looks really interesting and I hope the Peacocks bring you much joy in the coming year.

Peacocks are soooo cool! What are you going to name them? :P

They are called Perseus and Adromeda (Percy and Andy for short).

They are just one year old so they haven't developed all their colors yet.

Here's picture of their father (called Leon)

What little i do know of the peacock, is they make great guards at sounding the trumpets if company should arrive. Beautiful bird and great choice for company and copanion!

When I think of Peakocks, a walking rainbow comes to my mind.

So is Andromeda actually a peahen? Are you guys going to have your own little peacock family someday? I think this gift idea is way cool :)

Late, but still want to say... happy birthday Laura. :D
